Neal Ronald Wilson

April 20, 1945 — August 15, 2025

Neal Ronald Wilson, 80, left all of us here to fend for ourselves on Friday August 15th, after fighting cancer like a superhero. He peacefully took his last breath surrounded by Gma Favorite and his kids at his home in Kaysville.

He was born in Lehi on April 20, 1945, to Gayln and Wanda Wilson where he later graduated from Lehi High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States and did a brief stint with the Utah Army National Guard. After being set up on a blind date, he married his sweetheart, Karen Madsen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 1, 1967. He loved Karen fiercely and would do whatever needed to be done for her happiness.

Neal started working at a local bank, which lead to him loving the banking industry for many years, working for a few local banks, but the majority of his career was spent with Zions Bank. He held many executive positions and taught AIB classes to his upcoming peers. He was the chairman on the Community Council in Uintah and on the Uintah Highland Water Board.

He wore his business suits well and always dressed nicely, even in his jeans and ironed, tucked in tight, plaid shirts.

Neal has always been a hard worker and rarely sat down. If something needed to be done, it got done right then. He was usually found at the sink after family dinners, vacuuming, working on those dreaded sprinklers, licking his finger to pick up that one crumb, or fixing any number of things around the house. If he didn’t know how to do something, he just figured it out, without Google. His motto was: “If it is to be, it is up to me!” One of the hardest things for his pride this year was watching and letting his kids do those chores for him.

Everyone who met Neal, loved Neal! He is a great example to his kids and grandkids. He taught his kids ‘the right way’ to do all things, sometimes by redoing it after it had been done by one of them. He has a hilarious personality and you knew exactly what he was thinking by his facial expressions or furrowed brows, even in his last days when he couldn’t speak his thoughts properly. He rarely spoke ill of anyone and helped teach the kids how to be respectful and ‘stand up straight.’ One of his favorite pastimes was going on walks and he loved to travel with his family. He will be greatly missed by many!

He served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Bishop of the Uintah 4th and 6th Wards where he was truly loved and well respected. He and Karen served an inner-city Ogden mission and served as temple ordinance workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple.

He survived a head injury 37 years ago on a motorcycle trip to the sand dunes and has fought like mad to stay here ever since.

Neal is survived my his eternal companion Karen, his kids Jade (Christina) Wilson, John Barber, Staci (Danny) Taylor, and Devin (Lindsay) Wilson; his grandkids, Logan (Bryn) Barber, Audrey (Caleb) Overbaugh, Judd (Lauren) Barber, Mya Taylor (fiancé Jordan Brown), Ethan Taylor, Tristan Wilson, Graham Wilson, and Gus Wilson, and one great-grandson Hank Wilson Barber with a great-granddaughter on the way; also his brother Mark G. Wilson and sisters Sharon Anderton and Janet Mangum; and many brothers/sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his sweet daughter Camille Barber, his parents Gayln and Wanda Wilson, parent-in-laws Verl and Evelyn Madsen, and his sister and her husband, Connie and Stan Morrell.
