Monte Davis, beloved son, older brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and now guardian angel, passed away of natural causes, suddenly but peacefully, on March 30, 2012. As in life, at the time of his passing he was surrounded by friends. Monte was healthy, active, and a good friend with a big smile up to the final moment of his allotted time on this earth. He loved his friends, and they loved him. He was admired and loved by his many cousins, with whom Monte would patiently and cheerfully share his skill playing video games. “Can I play with Monte?” was a frequently asked question.
Monte is the eldest son of Scott B. and Kim Johnson Davis, born on January 13, 1997, in Logan, Utah. He was in the 9th grade at Millcreek Jr. High, where, among other activities, he played clarinet in the school band. He served as the President of the Deacons and Teachers Quorums in the Bountiful 4th Ward, Bountiful Utah South Stake. Monte was very active in scouting, diligently working toward earning his Eagle Scout award and serving in numerous leadership positions in his troop.
Monte loved to golf, particularly with his cousins and uncles. He was a black belt in karate, and he enjoyed a variety of activities including playing PS3 games, hunting for lizards, playing games and social networking on his cell phone and iTouch, panning for gold, and watching Nacho Libre. His cherished and beloved friends are a big part of who he is. Monte always looked forward to weekends hanging out with them. He loves his friends!
Monte’s best friend was his father, with whom he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, training dogs, training homing pigeons, raising chickens, and anything else having to do with animals and the outdoors. Each year Monte looked forward to the time he would spend volunteering with his Grandpa OJ, cheering his Dad on during Wasatch Back Relay. Monte and his dad had a special friendship and bond that is now strengthening throughout the eternities.
When Monte’s father passed away suddenly in November, 2010, Monte stepped up and admirably and inspiringly filled the role of the priesthood leader in the home, the Man of the House. He grew tremendously in physical statute (one foot in the last year alone) and wisdom, and matured spiritually, socially, and emotionally. He was a great source of strength to his mother and sisters and a peacemaker in the home and among friends. Like his grandfathers Karl and OJ, he had a big and infectious smile and a laugh that lifted the spirit of others.
There will always be an empty spot for Monte in the hearts of his loved ones, and the sadness of his leaving will be long to heal, but comfort is found in the knowledge that Monte was welcomed home Friday night by his father – And Scott is undoubtedly looking up to Monte (as he is taller than Scott) and envying Monte’s full head of hair. His mission on this earth concluded, having accomplished all that was necessary for him to accomplish in mortality, and being needed – immediately – to labor in other fields, Monte was called home, too soon for those who love him, but in perfect accord with God’s will.
Monte is survived by his stalwart and faithful mother, Kim, his younger sisters Sydney and Kari, his grandmother Susie Davis, grandparents O.J. and Colleen Johnson, uncles and aunts Craig and Becky Parry, Steven and Jennifer Davis, Jon and Mandy Clegg, Ryan and Stacey Davis, Matthew and Celeste Davis, Kerry and Terri Bertelsen, Max and Kristine Clark, and Paul and Jennifer Bush, by many cousins and friends, and by his two dogs, Zip and Coco. He was preceded in death by his father Scott and his grandfather Karl T Davis.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the LDS Meetinghouse at 1500 S. 600 E., Bountiful (next to Valley View Elementary). Viewings will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, and from 9:30 until 10:30 Saturday morning at the Meetinghouse. The final resting place for Monte’s mortal body will be at the Bountiful Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, where he was so often found in life, by his father’s side.
