Michael Glenn Vance, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away October 19, 2025, in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 75.
Michael was born November 30, 1949, in Riverdale, Utah. He was a gifted musician who began performing with the Utah Symphony Orchestra when he was only 16 years old. He started his full-time career as a flutist and principal piccolo player at age 18; he then balanced life as both a student and professional musician, earning a degree in music performance from Westminster College in 1972. During his time with the Symphony, Mike performed across the world from Europe to South America, including at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. His solos were broadcast on the radio many times, and he contributed to albums featuring well-known movie themes.
Michael met his wife Lucie during college and dedicated his life to supporting her and their family for 53 years. He would do anything for his family.
Michael was an avid fly angler who loved fishing and fly tying with his family, duck hunting and skeet shooting. He especially loved to cook for family and friends. He liked reading about American history and took pride in his yard, maintaining a beautiful flower display and a fruitful garden. Everyone who enjoyed Michael’s company was warmed by his humorous disposition, thoughtfulness of others, and fierce generosity. He will be missed every day.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Norma Vance, and his sister, Kay Neuteboom. He is survived by his wife, Lucie Grant Vance; his son, Glenn (Cindy) Vance; his daughter, Laura (Steve) Collins; his son, Tyler (Shanell) Vance; and his grandchildren Mykaela, Sydney, Royston (Zinnia), Taylor & Mina.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited or the Nature Conservancy. Better yet, raise a glass to Michael and enjoy a day on the river fly fishing while thinking of him.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at one of Mike’s favorite places, Murray Park, on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. Please join us for an open house, and enjoy food and drinks at the Armory building, 246 E. Myrtle Avenue (5060 S), Murray, Utah.
