Merene Stephenson Owen

Merene Stephenson Owen passed away peacefully August 2, 2023, at Intermountain, Layton Hospital.  She was born in Holden, Utah to James W. Stephenson and Stella Hunter. She married Lyle C. Owen on March 18, 1958, in the Manti Temple.

She was proud of all of her posterity and the mother to Elizabeth Gebs (Berne), Matt S. Owen (Leslie), Patricia Owen, and Jerry Yazzie (Maria).  She was the grandmother of 11, and the great-grandmother of 17 with 2 on the way.

Merene received her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree from the University of Utah.  Education was an important value for her.  She spent the bulk of her career as an educator at Bountiful High School.  She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many different capacities. She was preceded in death by her husband.

There will be a visitation on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah.  There will be a graveside service in Holden, Utah.  Memories may be left in the "Guestbook" on this obituary page.
