Meredith Maughan Dutcher was born on April 14, 1983, in Mountain Home, Idaho, to Neil and Marsha Chatterton Maughan. She was the eighth child in a loving family who immediately fell in love with her. Meredith was a happy child, known for her huge smile and bright blue eyes that won the hearts of many. She never lacked for attention, surrounded always by those eager to hold her. From a young age, she was kind and compassionate, with a natural instinct to care for those around her.
Meredith loved to perform and found joy on the stage early in life. She starred in her junior high production of The Pirates of Penzance and later cherished singing in her high school choir, where her beautiful voice was frequently heard. She graduated from Viewmont High School in 2001. Following graduation, Meredith earned her certificate from beauty school and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Independence, Missouri.
After her mission, Meredith met Garrett Dutcher at a young single adult activity. They were married on June 17, 2008, in Nauvoo, Illinois. The couple moved to Cedar City, Utah, where Meredith attended Southern Utah University, studying theater arts. She excelled in costume design and stage makeup and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
After graduation, Meredith and Garrett moved to Centerville, Utah, where she worked for an embroidery company. Meredith had a deep love for creating elaborate costumes and was a gifted seamstress, patiently attending to every detail. She carefully studied the history of period clothing to ensure accuracy in style and fabric, honoring the eras she recreated. She loved attending Comic-Con with cousins and friends and even designed costumes for herself and Garrett to attend a Jane Eyre Ball.
Meredith and Garrett also shared a love of performance, appearing together in Fiddler on the Roof at Heritage Theatre in Perry, Utah, as well as other productions at CenterPoint Theatre in Centerville. They took dance lessons together and delighted in learning old-fashioned dances.
In 2022, Meredith and Garrett moved to Logan, Utah, where they began renovating their home. Meredith worked at The Logo Shop, where she was a dedicated and hardworking employee. She enjoyed walking to work, often stopping to admire plants along the way. She dreamed of creating a yard filled with edible native plants and kept careful lists of plants and trees to add to her garden. Meredith was diligent, industrious, and determined in her pursuit of self-sufficiency.
Meredith was known for transforming clothing she no longer wore into new fashions, creating her own patterns and spending countless hours sewing. This creative renewal became a hallmark of her life, taking what was old or worn and giving it new life. She also loved trying new recipes and frequently cooked for others, pouring her time, energy, and love into every meal she shared.
Meredith is survived by her parents, Neil and Marsha Maughan of Farmington, Utah; her siblings Michele Wright, Mike Maughan, Maria Maughan (Steve Cecil), Morey Maughan (Jessica), Melanie Arkoudas (Ryan), Matthew Maughan (Brittany), and Marshall Maughan (Rondi); and her 14 nieces and 17 nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, three uncles, and one aunt.
The family expresses their deep love and appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown to them. They have been held and supported by many as they mourn the sudden and devastating loss of a beautiful daughter, sister, and friend.
