Maurine Williams Selander Creer

June 7, 1937 — November 17, 2021

Maurine Williams Selander Creer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away quietly at her home in St. George, Utah on November 17, 2021, due to natural causes.

Maurine was born on June 7, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the third child of four of her parents Robert Cullen and Elva Christensen Williams, among her brothers Robert Cullen Williams Jr., Richard Dean Williams, and Stephen Glenn Williams.

She spent her childhood in Salt Lake City where she excelled at playing the piano, and as a young teenager she focused on jazz improvisation.

In 1952 she married her sweetheart, Richard Monroe Selander, and they had 3 children, Susan, Mark and Sylvia Selander. They were able to have one of her uncles build a house for the young family in Bountiful, Utah, where they then moved in 1958.

In April of 1960, Maurine and her husband suffered a severe car accident in Mount Pleasant, Utah where she was the sole survivor of six people, losing her husband Richard. By the grace of God, she recovered from this accident after 6 long months in hospital, and with loving support of her family and friends, she slowly regained her health and overcame her injuries.

In 1961, she met David Clare Creer, whom she married in December of 1961, and they had 2 daughters, Chimane and Charisse (Cher) Creer.

Maurine was a young, beautiful, mother who reared her 5 children with love and discipline, instilling in them a strong work ethic that had been passed down to her from her mother and the hard-working pioneer tradition of her grandparents and great grandparents. She worked tirelessly to provide a clean, loving and lively environment in which to rear her family.

Her fondest memories were of the annual summer vacations the family would take together up and down the West Coast and across the United States, with her husband, five children, a dog, and oftentimes a camping trailer in tow. And she would jump at the chance to go to Wendover and Elko with friends for quick getaways. She and David knew how to enjoy life with good friends.

From the late 1960s through the 1970s she worked for Utah Bank & Trust in Bountiful for 17 years. After her children had grown and moved away from home, she and her husband David Creer remained many more years in Bountiful, but split the time

there, spending winters in St. George, Utah, where they lived full time for their last years.

She loved to listen to the music of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and shared a great love of beautiful music, which also included jazz standards,

and country music. She held her beliefs in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints close to her heart and was an active member throughout her life.

Maurine is survived by her five children, Susan Lawrence, Mark Richard Selander, Sylvia (Steve) Ginter, Chimane Creer (Sally Wells), and Cher (John) Prows, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 of 3 brothers Richard Dean Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Stephen Glenn Williams of Taylorsville, Utah, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m and Saturday morning from 9:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Graveside services are to be held at Bountiful City Cemetery, located at 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah, on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank Dixie Home Health & Hospice, especially nurses Cindy and Georgia, as well as the Senior Helpers Team with special thanks to Kade, Karly and Brooke for the loving and excellent care they provided in the latter days of her life.

And above all, sincere gratitude goes out to our dear sisters and family members Chimane Creer, Sally Wells, Cher Prows and John Prows for the years they nurtured and took care of both our father and mother during their most difficult times.  Their love proved to be boundless… our angels from on high.
