Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away in her sleep on the morning of May 10th, 2025. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was known for her strong testimony of Jesus Christ. As a mother, she was known for her faith in her prayers and her many revelations to help her children in their hours of great need.
Maureen Murphy Huffaker was born in Salt Lake City on August 15th, 1951. Her family later moved to Camden, California, where she attended Camden High. Before she graduated from high school, she helped three of her classmates join the Church. She attended BYU for three and a half years and she met the love of her life, Todd Huffaker, on a blind date. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on January 2nd, 1973. Shortly after, they moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, where Todd attended dental school.
She served as young women’s president in the small branch in Morgantown and was instrumental in several young people joining the Church there. After Todd graduated, they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. A short time later, they moved to Davis County, Utah where they raised their family. Todd and Maureen have six children: five sons and one daughter. She raised her children to have faith in God. All five of her sons were Eagle Scouts and her daughter received her Young Women’s Medallion. All six of her children served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She valued education. All of her children obtained bachelor’s degrees, and three of them went on to receive doctorates. After her children were in school, she completed her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood at Weber State University in 1999.
She supported her husband as he worked in the temple as an ordinance worker for 38 years. She served in the Salt Lake Temple for two and a half years, and for seven years in the Bountiful Temple. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Her comments in Relief Society and her testimony in sacrament meeting inspired faith. She served her children and her grandchildren tirelessly. She was truly a servant of all. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed, but her influence will continue to bless our lives. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited again through our temple sealing.
Maureen is survived by her eternal companion, Todd; her children: Matt (Heather) Huffaker, Boise, ID; David (Chelsea) Huffaker, Bountiful; Mark (Pam) Huffaker, Centerville; Lisa (Nathan) Reynolds, Lincoln, CA; Paul (Jenny) Huffaker, Woods Cross; Scott (to be determined) Huffaker, Centerville; and 23 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret (Bruce) Messick, Centerville; Shannon (Brent) Jensen, Gunnison; and her brother, Michael (Carolanne) Murphy, Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alda Murphy.
