Bountiful, UT

Matthew L. Toomey, devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away on January 14, 2023, with his loving wife by his side. Matt was 42 years old. Matt is survived by his soulmate, Aimee, and his adoring children, Calee (Parker), Gavin, and Brock. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David, and Nathan.

Matt was born on December 22, 1980, in Walnut Creek, California. From an early age, he demonstrated a lively and inquisitive intellect. Led by his pure and well-intentioned heart, Matt created a life rich with family, friends, and friends who became family.

Matt graduated from Viewmont High School in 1999. He was a multi-sport athlete and an exceptional football player and teammate. There, Matt cultivated many meaningful and lasting friendships, including the absolute love of his life, Aimee Zeisler Toomey.  The couple married on July 8, 1999, and were later sealed by President Thomas S. Monson on March 14, 2001 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity. Three beautiful children joined their family: Calee, Gavin, and Brock. This family was the root of Matt’s richest happiness and joyful pride.

Matt graduated top of his class from Weber State University with a degree in nursing. He attended graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he obtained Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Nurse Anesthesia. Education and service were of the utmost importance to Matt, and his approach to patient care reflected this with precision. As a result, Matt was respected and admired by his colleagues for his competence, work ethic, and leadership.

Matt was a vibrant, thoughtful, and gifted individual. He lived life to the fullest. He had a contagious smile and a servant’s heart.  He loved quality time shared with family and friends, adventuring in the outdoors, or working on projects at home. Matt was a highly skilled craftsman and mechanic. He loved riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, power paragliding, kitesurfing, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, and boating. He enjoyed teaching new skills to his family. Making memories was a cherished priority for Matt.  He meticulously cared for Aimee, their children, and anyone else involved in his life. He never wasted time with those he cared about. He showed great love to all daily, and it was obvious in the way he lived.

Matt had the rare gift of leaving people better than he found them. He made everyone feel special and loved. Matt will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, bright smile, bear hugs, humor, and sense of adventure.  His legacy of love and memories will be treasured forever. Above all else, he fiercely loved his wife, children, and family.
