Marylynn D. Coleman Spencer, passed away on October 10, 2026, encircled by her family. Marylynn was born on September 19, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lynn B. and Mary Boyer Coleman. She attended schools in Salt Lake City and Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. There she met Kent E. Spencer to whom she was married for over 55 years. During that time Marylynn was a devoted wife and mother, caring friend, and dedicated career professional with the Internal Revenue Service.
Her friends and family, each with their own vivid recollections of moments and stories, benefitted from her kindness, good humor, and innate respect for others. Together with Kent, she created a home full of love, guidance, and encouragement to always put forth one’s best in any task. They were present in each other’s lives and those of their daughters throughout school and at all the events that marked important chapters for them. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren began their stories, Marylynn was always an anchor in adventures, delighted by their lively reports, or offering a listening ear in challenging times. Her heart was simply made to be filled with family, and she created a sturdy home base, always with good food and chocolate chip cookies, at all the various sites of activity – a campground, the Spencer ranch, the family cabin, or her Bountiful home.
Marylynn and Kent were strengths to each other in their careers and enlightening companions on world travels after retirement. At their get-away homes in Midway and the Islander, Arizona RV community, Marylynn joined in crafting, book groups, golf, and boating with friends. In Bountiful, she was active as a golfer, bowler, and dominos player, but peaceful evenings with the sunset view from her house helped make that place the most special to her.
Marylynn will be cherished in the memories of all who knew her, especially her daughters Elizabeth Weight, Deborah Hoehne (David), Pam Spencer-Hockett (Steve) and Lynne Spencer-Smith (Greg); her sisters Barbara Coleman and Jeanne Coleman and nephew Erich Dietz (Wendy); her grandchildren David Hoehne (Jen), Joseph Call, Aaron Hoehne (Steph), Sarah Shafter (John), Jessica Garrett (Jerome) and Angela Frischknecht (John); and her great-grandchildren Brayden Hoehne, Gracie Rose (Bryce), Logan Shafter, Kodie Shafter, Brooklyn Shafter, Kay Garrett, and Eli Garrett; and her precious great-great granddaughter, Elsie Rose, who will definitely hear all about her.
Preceding Marylynn in death were her parents, her husband Kent, her brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Debbie Coleman. The family expresses deep gratitude for the warm and generous care given by the staff members of Dignity Hospice, Atlas Hospice, and Lakeview Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2026, at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah. A visitation will be held at the mortuary from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service. Marylynn will be interred at Lakeview Memorial Park, Bountiful, Utah.
