Mary A. Elzinga 1914 – 2006

Mary Eliza Allen Elzinga, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, left this mortal existence peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 03, 2006.

Born on October 23, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Leith Allen and Mary Eliza Hill Allen. The third of seven children, she learned early the value of hard work by helping around the house with such chores as bringing water from the well, feeding chickens and caring for her brothers and sisters. Later she worked as a secretary at the state insurance department and the Department of the Navy. Her most important and satisfying work was that as a wife and mother.

Married Andrew Haijkens Elzinga in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 1, 1945.

Mary was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Served faithfully in each of her called assignments, serving in several auxiliary presidencies and teaching Primary and Sunday School. Served as a missionary during 1937-1939 in the California Mission. She was a tremendous support to her husband in his priesthood assignments.

An excellent cook, she always packed enough food for an army on the family outings. Enjoyed sewing, gardening and fishing. Loved by all that knew her. Was a loyal and caring friend to many.

Survived by her husband of 60 years, Andy; four sons, Robert Jenny, Jerry April, James and Scott; sister, Emily Crump; ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter, Judith Ann; parents; brothers, Leith, Richard, Hyrum, and Joseph; and sister, Ruth.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thurs, Feb 9, 2006 at the Valley View 1st Ward chapel, 2245 East 3900 South. A viewing will be held Wed evening 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Russon Bros. Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, and 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM prior to services at the church. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
