Marilyn Barker Stanger

May 15, 1953 — January 9, 2026

Marilyn Barker Stanger of Kaysville, Utah, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on January 9th, 2026, at the age of 72. She was born on May 15, 1953, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of William Powell and Marjorie Dieu Barker. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Grant Stanger, 6 children: Shara Lynne Hann, Jedediah Douglas (Kirsten) Stanger, Cameron Tenille (Benjamin) Pratt, Lexington Uriah (Yuka) Stanger, Aubree Anne (Layne) Willden, and Brittney Noelle (Jamison) Probst, 27 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and her siblings: Mesa (Jim) Ipson, Nancy (Lloyd) Olson, and William (Lynette) Barker, and Doug’s siblings, who accepted and loved her as a true sister and they were loved wholeheartedly back: Sue and Kent (dec) Fuller, Jan and Lynn Larsen, Mark and Debbie Stanger, and Criss and Todd Wheeler.

Marilyn met the love of her life, her devoted husband, at the Stop & Shop grocery store in Ogden, Utah, where they both worked. They quickly fell in love and were sealed together for eternity on December 14, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they created a beautiful life centered around their children and their faith in the Savior Jesus Christ. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Marilyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her entire life. She served in many capacities in the Primary, Young Women, Relief Society, and music committee. Marilyn and Doug served in the Layton Utah Mission from 2021-2023. Their missionary work became some of their happiest times together.

Marilyn was the ultimate homemaker, always cooking and baking for her family and sharing that gift with others. Her cinnamon rolls, orange rolls and doughnuts are family favorites. Marilyn loved to sing, actively participating in church choirs and in the Davis Master Chorale. She shared her talents of sewing, knitting and crocheting, making clothes, blankets and quilts for her family. Her collection of yarn is impressive, and she could never resist buying more for her next project for someone she loved. These quiet, thoughtful acts reflected her caring heart and the way she showed love for others.

Not a day went by when Marilyn wasn’t planning her next travel destination, and she was a bit of an amateur travel agent. Family vacations were meticulously planned and organized into neat binders with maps, information, activities, and detailed daily menus. She loved going with Doug to his work conferences and other trips they did together. She also enjoyed going on vacations with her parents, their siblings, their spouses and their friends. As their children moved away from home with their families, she loved being able to visit them in their homes, no matter where they lived, and being able to be present in their lives and create lasting memories with each one. One of the greatest joys in her life was being a grandma and making each grandchild feel loved and special.

The family is grateful to the professionals and staff at McKay Dee Hospital, for their compassionate care and service.
