Marilyn Brown Neilson

February 8, 1935 — February 9, 2022

Marilyn Brown Neilson returned to her Father-in-Heaven on February 9th, just one day after celebrating her 87th birthday. She slipped away peacefully with family at her side to begin a beautiful reunion with her husband, Vern, loving parents, and beloved family who have passed on.

Marilyn came into this world in North Ogden, Utah as the oldest of four and graduated from Weber High School where she had many dear friends who she kept in touch with most of her life.

She met her eternal companion, Vern Neilson, in high school and dated him while she attended Utah State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She married Vern in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, 1956.

Marilyn taught school until she had children, at which time, she decided to stay home to love, teach and care for them. Marilyn loved people, and most of all, loved to serve others. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having family and friends over for dinner. As it was her passion to serve others, she would spend nearly the entire time making sure everyone had food on their plate, and that it was still warm; and if not, would promptly snatch the plate, warm it up and return it back to her guest. She hardly sat down at the table herself, so she could make sure everyone else was served and re-served when needed.

Marilyn was very proud of her heritage and loved to talk about her ancestors and tell stories about them. Anyone listening to her speak would quickly understand just how much she loved her family, even those she had not yet had the opportunity to meet.

Marilyn also loved the performing arts and never missed her children’s or grandchildren’s high school plays, recitals, and school/church programs. She had a passion for television mystery programs and old classic movies, and in particular, musicals that featured an abundance of song and dance. She would often stay up into the early morning hours watching them. Everyone loved Marilyn and she was mostly known as “Aunt Marilyn” to relatives and non-relatives alike, and in most cases, was simply known as “Mom” to her children’s closest friends. Marilyn was always a wonderful example of kindness, patience, and love to everyone; a trait that she learned and inherited from her sweet mother, Katherine.

Marilyn leaves behind her daughter Nancy Toone (David), sons Scot Neilson and Randy Neilson (Milissa), 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and siblings Richard Brown (Hazie), Diane Richards (Barry), and Marie Romney. She was preceded in death by her husband Vern Neilson, parents Geddes and Katherine Brown, great granddaughters Rebecca and Rachel Toone, and brother-in-law Norman Romney.

Private funeral services for the family will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Bountiful, Utah Central Stake Center, 640 S 750 E, Bountiful, Utah 84010.  Interment will be at the West Weber Cemetery, 4590 950 N, Ogden, UT 84404.

Funeral services will be live streamed on Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page for friends of the family.
