Marilyn Sharples Goodwin

November 25, 1935 — April 23, 2022

Marilyn Sharples Goodwin passed away on April 23, 2022, from a broken heart after losing her husband of 60+ years last year. She was born November 25, 1935, in East Millcreek on her grandmother’s kitchen table to Elmer S. and Irene Grace Atkinson Sharples. She was a graduate of the first class at Olympus High School and later attended BYU for two years.

She met Lorel (Goodie) and after dating for two years, married her loving husband in the Salt Lake Temple.  Together they raised four wonderful sons, Larry, Chet, Paul, Reed, and a grandson, Chad, whom she often referred to as her fifth son.

She worked various jobs throughout her life, mostly for an independent grocery store, Dick’s Market.  As a stable, dependable employee, she worked in many positions there and had many customers who would wait in a longer line to be served by her.

She spent many years supporting her boys during their sporting events becoming quite a fixture at the baseball diamond or football stadium.  Her and Goodie served Bountiful Boys Baseball for many years and influenced hundreds of youths.  Their desire to make the organization better through their service changed many lives.

Thank you for your love and support.  Those many years you supported us through our many sporting activities were precious to us.  The positive impact you and Goodie had on Bountiful Little League Baseball will be evident for many years to come.

Mom, you have blessed us immensely with your dedication to the family and your love.

She is survived by her four sons, Larry (Christine), Chet (Carrie), Paul, Reed (Jean), and 20+ grandkids / great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband Goodie, her parents, a sister and two brothers.

Burial with a graveside service will be held at Bountiful Cemetery (2224 South 200 West) on Friday, April 29, at 2:00 pm.  There will be limited seating so please bring a chair to sit in if you desire.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
