Marilyn passed away peacefully at home early Thursday morning, June 25, 2026. She was born to Richard Van Clay and Edith Althea Cheney Clay in Brigham City, Utah on October 22, 1936.
She married Fred Yngvar Andersen on March 8, 1957, in West Bountiful, Utah. They were sealed March 13, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 66 years.She had a Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah. She was a Ford Scholar, enabling her to skip her senior year of high school and start at the University of Utah a year early.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a Gospel Doctrine teacher, sang in the ward choir, and was a very active visiting teacher/ministering sister. Many in her ward loved her dearly for her immense kindness, generosity, and dedication to others.She was a math teacher for 40 years at Bountiful Junior High School. She was beloved by many students, and was always willing to tutor students in need, far after retirement. She was very dedicated to her students, coming in before, and staying well after the bell rang, to ensure that students in need would be able to get additional help, and improve their academic prospects. She touched the lives of many students by teaching them math skills that they would use for the rest of their lives.
She was an active member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, as a teacher, music leader, and participant. She was an avid reader, and loved learning new things, and challenging herself with jigsaw puzzles. She loved traveling with her husband Fred, traveling both to Norway, and across the US to see various historical sights, and beloved family members.She loved her family, and cherished having them come visit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents and two brothers, Richard and Eugene. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Walpole (William), Kathryn Hart (Bill), and Jane Smith (Michael), brother Edwin Clay, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, July 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. An additional viewing will be held prior to the funeral services on Thursday, July 2nd, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Centerville Utah South Stake Center located at 270 N 300 E, Centerville, UT. She will be interred at Centerville City Cemetery.
Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory YouTube page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
