Margaret Bess

Margaret passed away at a skilled nursing facility in Bountiful, Utah on January 11, 2026. She was born on January 30, 1944 in Provo, Utah to William Lawrence Schreiner and Lois Merle (Astin) Schreiner.

The family lived in Springville, Utah where Margaret attended school and graduated from Springville High School. She attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with an Executive Secretary focus. While working in Los Angeles, California, she met Kenneth Charles Bess who she married on June 28, 1967 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in various capacities throughout her life including teaching, music and a service mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her testimony was firm and unwavering. 

Margaret loved music! She sang and studied cello, piano and organ. She taught piano lessons in her home and enjoyed playing the organ in the Bountiful Temple for many years. Her other interests included drama, reading and traveling with her husband throughout the United States as well as to various international destinations. A special delight was family vacations to Aspen Grove Family Camp which they enjoyed for over 30 years. 

Margaret enjoyed doing hand crafts including crochet, cross stitch and plastic canvas. Most of the items she made, were gifted to friends and family. These serve as a wonderful reminder of her generosity and love. 

After her children were grown, Margaret furthered her educational pursuits attending Weber State University where she received a degree in Elementary Education. Thereafter, she taught ten years in the Davis County School District.

Margaret is survived by her husband Kenneth, her children, Kenneth Schreiner Bess (Monica), Eric Schreiner Bess (Katherine), and Amy Betts; siblings, Lawrence Schreiner, Merlene Thiriot and Bruce Schreiner, as well as 10 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant grand-child.

Funeral services will be on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 10 a.m. in the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, 84010, preceded by a viewing from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
