Lynn T Kenison, resident of Tooele, Utah, passed away in his home from natural causes, March 31, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 20, 1943, in Provo, Utah; fifth of seven children; he was the son of John and Grace (Thacker) Kenison. Lynn was raised in Provo, Utah with his siblings: Wanda (Lavell) Campbell, Dean (Jeanne) Kenison, LaVerle (Joanne) Kenison, Dale (Carolee) Kenison, Steve (Coleen) Kenison and Kathy Kenison.
Lynn married Daralyn Wold in the Logan Utah Temple, June 10, 1969. They shared 55 years of life, love, and memories. They were blessed with six children: Marlene McKellips, Mark (Wendy) Kenison, Evan (Esther) Kenison, Guy (Vicci) Kenison, Amy (Paul) Gibbons, Suzanne Walker and now twenty-six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
At 6 months of age Lynn contracted polio. He spent most of his childhood summers in hospitals. He had many surgeries, different types of braces and wheelchair races with the other patients his age. They definitely gave the nurses a run for their money. Throughout his life Lynn kept the medical profession in business with the dozens of surgeries necessary to keep him moving forward the way he wanted. He turned a difficult disease into a source of strength and purpose. Many people would feel life had been unfair with the challenges he faced; but he worked harder than most, excelled, and never felt sorry for himself. Instead, he was deeply grateful for every blessing our Heavenly Father gave him.
Lynn graduated from Provo High School in 1961. He earned his Bachelor of Science in 1968 and his Master of Science in Chemistry in 1971, from his beloved BYU. While attending college he hiked the Mt. Timpanogos Peak (14.5 miles in length with 4,500 ft elevation gain), taught kayaking lessons, kayaked from Provo boat harbor to Bird Island on Utah lake and back (11 miles round trip), and played on a water polo team. After graduating from BYU, Lynn worked as a high school math and physics Teacher. He then worked for the Salt Lake Health Department analyzing drugs for the police and courts. He finished with a 35-year career for OSHA Laboratories as their Senior Chemist. He worked tirelessly to create safe and effective storage regulations for radioactive materials. Lynn served 8 years on the West Bountiful City Council, being a key member on the planning committee for the West Bountiful City Park. Without him, we would not have the sledding hill.
Lynn had an everlasting love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived his life in accordance with his beliefs as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was the first in his family to serve an LDS mission in the Southern States Mission, which included a good portion of time in Missouri and Arkansas. Later in life, Lynn and Daralyn served two Senior Missions together in the Family History Library and Church History Library. Throughout his life, Lynn had many callings and responsibilities. He was ward clerk, financial clerk, counselor in the Bishopric and Cubmaster (one of his favorites). Lynn demonstrated his love of the Gospel by example; he lived what he believed. He studied the scriptures daily with Daralyn, he loved keeping track of how many times he had read the Book of Mormon. 100 ticks inside the front cover. Family scripture study and nightly prayers were a must, and weekly Monday night Family Home Evenings were observed. He was living the principles of the Proclamation to the Family before it even existed: faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work and wholesome recreational activities.
Lynn raised his children to work hard and enjoy the work. Half of his ¼ acre lot of land was dedicated to a vegetable garden and chickens for eggs and meat. He taught his children how to preserve the food, canning 250 bottles of each fruit and vegetable every year. Lynn designed and built a food storage room to hold all the preserved food and supplies which would support his family throughout the year. While building their home in West Bountiful, he added an 800 sq ft wood hop. Lynn loved wood working. He made toys, beds, bookshelves, tables, desks, and anything constructed of wood. All of Lynn’s children were able to use large power tools well before entering Home Economics and Wood Shop classes in school. He taught his children to change flat tires, change the oil, swap out the spark plugs, and other useful car tips. He could fix a fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, swamp cooler, air conditioning unit, and furnace. He did all the electrical work in his West Bountiful home and updated the sprinkler system on a yearly basis. He was an all-around handyman before you could find it on YouTube.
Lynn loved his time with his family. His wife and children were his life and ultimate purpose. Even in his later years he wished to have all 6 of his children living on the same street, attending church and having Sunday dinners together. As much as he loved all of us together, having upwards of 50 people in one room did get a little overwhelming. He was known to turn down his hearing aids in those moments. His children all have fond memories of swimming, camping in Yellowstone and Timpooneke campground, hiking to Timpanogos Cave, ice skating and almost dying when he turned the station wagon around on a very narrow mountain road. Lynn blessed his children with many happy memories because of how he loved them.
Lynn was preceded in death by his loving wife Daralyn Wold Kenison; his parents John and Grace Kenison; his sister Wanda Campbell; and brothers Dean, LaVerle, Dale (Bud) and Steve Kenison.
