Lydia Harris Johnson

January 3, 1935 — April 26, 2021

Lydia Harris Johnson passed away at home surrounded by family on April 26, 2021. She was born January 3, 1935 in Beaver, Utah, the fifth of eleven children born to Edith and Leroy Harris. She had a happy childhood and learned valuable lessons from living on a farm in a large family. Lydia attended Utah State University to study Elementary Education, where she met Gordon Johnson. They were married June 8, 1956 in the St. George Utah temple. Having grown up in a large family, Lydia was delighted with seven children blessed to be part of the Johnson clan. Lydia spent her life as a homemaker and working with Gordon in their automotive business. She was a talented seamstress and loved to quilt. Each of her children and grandchildren received a hand sewn quilt as a wedding gift. An expert at making a dollar stretch to feed her large family, she bottled fruit and jam and baked many loaves of bread each week. She loved to bake cookies and kept the freezer stocked with ice cream. She enjoyed any opportunity to take the trailer out with Dad as they visited family and campgrounds all over the U.S. Lydia loved flowers and working in her yard, always planting what brought her joy.
She loved her family and welcomed each new member with open arms. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many capacities and helped many learn and feel the love of Jesus Christ as she taught and testified of Him. She has many dear friends from the Bountiful 41st Ward and Bountiful Utah Heights Stake.
Lydia is survived by her husband of 64 years and six children: Craig (Janice) Johnson, Shirley (Bud) Scruggs, Bentley (Cynthia) Johnson, Ronald (Rebecca) Johnson, Amy (David) Powell, and Terry (Sara) Johnson; 30 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, and a beloved daughter Lisa (Jake) Lang. We know they are having a joyful reunion.
Our family thanks the many friends for the love and care they showed Lydia throughout her life and especially this past year.
