LuDean Anderson Smith

January 7, 1936 — July 26, 2023

Bountiful, UT

LuDean Anderson Smith was born on January 7, 1936, in Logan, Utah. She was the oldest daughter of Dean Oscar and Lula Bullen Anderson. LuDean was raised in the Rupert area and also in Richmond, Utah.

She graduated from Minidoka High School and attended the Agricultural College of Utah, now known as Utah State University. This is where she was set up on a blind date with William (Bill) Reed Smith. They married on September 15, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple and were married for nearly 62 years. LuDean was an amazing mother to seven children whom she adored and who were the light of her life. LuDean and Bill made their homes in Trenton, Woods Cross, West Bountiful and Bountiful.

LuDean loved children and they loved her. She taught Head Start for 26 years. Her children have fond memories of hearing “Mrs. Smith” at various stores and events around Bountiful. She had a special touch with those children she taught. She made many lifelong friends through her career with Head Start.

LuDean also loved to teach the Primary children. She served in various callings in Primary until the Relief Society discovered what a hard worker she was. She was a devout visiting teacher and loved to help anyone in need. Her favorite hymn was Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel, LuDean embodied the hard work illustrated in this hymn.

She is survived by her seven children: Howard Dean, Kaysville; Craig (Susie), Kaysville; Shauna (L Neil) Thurgood, Huntsville, AL; Reed (Gloria), Kaysville; Scott (Abby), Clearfield; Dennette, Bountiful; Sonja, West Point; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Mack (Carolyn), Bountiful; JLynn (Linda), Sandy; and sister-in-law Cindy (Scott) Hatch, Bountiful.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. Her parents, her parents-in-law, Howard and Lois Smith; her sister Sharon and husband JB Smith; her brothers Dean and Doug (Bonnie) Anderson, Heyburn, ID; her daughter-in-law, Brenda; former daughter-in-law, Karen and a grandson William Howard Smith.
