Lucille Farthing Mortensen

Dec 25, 1929 — Jul 8, 2026

Lucille Farthing Mortensen, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on July 8, 2026. Born on December 25, 1929 in Pavilion, Wyoming, Lucille was the second of six daughters of Harold Edward Farthing and Artie Welling.

After graduating from Fremont County Vocational High School, she attended BYU, and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to New England, the first missionary from the Lander, Wyoming area.

She married H. Boyd Mortensen in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1953. A devoted Proverbs 31 wife and mother, Lucille strove for excellence in every endeavor. She was an avid reader and student of the scriptures, an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed needlework of all kinds. She provided piano accompaniment at church for years. She served faithfully all her life in many Church callings, and found immense satisfaction in Relief Society service, and in serving with her husband on a Temple Square mission, family history work, and in the Bountiful Utah Temple.

She is survived by her six children: Charmaine (Ned), Melanie (Wilford), Robert (Elizabeth), Paula (Ralph), Neal (Anabelle), Mark (Kristina); thirty-two grandchildren, and 83 great-grandchildren; and sisters Penelope Race and Paula Anderson. Preceded in death by her husband Boyd Mortensen, sisters Alice Adams, Donna Gard, and Jeannette Mikesell; and grandson Joel.

In accordance with her wishes, Lucille’s children and grandchildren will hold a private memorial service.
