Lucile Rohrbach Young Gillett

Aug 12, 1925 — Jun 23, 2026

Bountiful, UT

Lucile Rohrbach Young Gillett passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 100, just a few weeks shy of her 101st birthday. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Lucile was born on August 12, 1925, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Samuel Alfred Rohrbach, a baker, and Lucy Meyer Rohrbach, a homemaker. Her parents were immigrants from Bern, Switzerland. She was the eldest child followed by her sister Ruth, her brother Lowell (Gus), and her baby sister Merle.

Lucile attended Granite High School in Salt Lake City and married Robert Alden Young in 1942 during World War II. They were the parents of four children: Marlene, Dana, Yvonne, and Dennis. Following their divorce, she married Homer Franklin Gillett on November 25, 1961, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Homer and Lucile, along with her children, spent fifteen years living on a farm in Burley, Idaho, before moving to a house on Davis Boulevard in Bountiful, Utah, where Lucile lived for the next fifty-seven years until her death. Homer and Lucile loved to spend time together planting and gardening and canning and preserving fresh foods from their beautiful backyard garden and small orchard. They enjoyed many long drives in the countryside and traveling. Lucile had been widowed for nearly twenty years following Homer’s passing.

Lucile was extremely gregarious and social; she never met a stranger, and to know her was to love her. She was an avid walker, walking every day until she was no longer able, and she also loved to read and tend to her flowers. She will be remembered as being incredibly generous and kind to everyone she met. Her laugh was especially joyous and warm.

Lucile was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life and enjoyed serving in many callings.

She is survived by her daughter Marlene (Frank) Westerman of Twin Falls, Idaho; her son Dennis Owen Young of Huntsville, Alabama; and her brother Gus (Joyce) Rohrbach, as well as many grandchildren and generations of families. A special niece, Jenifer Mutchie (John), cared for her for many years.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, son Dana Young, daughter Yvonne Lipsey (Glen), and daughter-in-law Wendy Lee Young (Dennis).

We express our many thanks to neighbors, friends, and young men who helped care for Lucile and ministered to her.
