Lora Loraine Barker Ford was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 18, 1941. She was reunited with her sweetheart, Duane, on July 23, 2024. Lora spent her childhood in Santa Barbara, California where both of her parents were artists - a passion they instilled in her, manifested through her love of music, pantomime, sewing and art. Her family returned to SLC when she was a teenager. There, she attended South High School and was involved in Drama, Pep Club and Drill Team. Lora married Duane Ford on September 10, 1959. Shortly after, they moved to Seattle where their first three children were born. They then moved to Bountiful, Utah where six more children joined the ranks. Lora and Duane loved their home in Bountiful. They always provided a safe place to land for their children, children's friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone who came through their door felt like family. You couldn't leave their house without seeing Lora standing at her front door waving you goodbye.
The best word to describe Lora, is nurturer. Her kindness and her goodness showed in everything she did. She was at all her children's, and grandchildren's, extra-curricular activities, even driving hours for tournaments and special events. She always had a moment to read a book, sing songs, or play Critter in the Candy with the grandkids. Her Mother Goose Jar was always stocked with sixlets, suckers or gushers - whatever fun treats only a grandma could supply. And, she always had cookies and candy at the ready for visiting neighbor kids. Lora loved all children and served as PTA President and Primary President. She loved serving and learning about her ancestors, both as a temple worker and through genealogy.
Most notably, Lora was a care-taker. She cared for her nine children and her mother in her aging years. After her husband suffered a massive stroke in 2013, Lora spent seven years caring for Duane with kindness, patience and fortitude. Lora faced her own illness with courage and grace. Her lessons of tenderness and charity will not be lost on those who knew her best.
Lora's family would like to thank Dr. Scott Southworth and Dr. Alberto Posada, as well as the many kind and compassionate nurses, and hospital staff at Lakeview Hospital and Ogden Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness in working tirelessly to help her in her final days.
Lora is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Ford, parents, Roy and Ruth Barker, siblings, Barbara and Richard, and grandchildren, Shaun & Shannon Ford.
