L. Paul Miller

November 22, 1935 — December 19, 2023

In loving memory of L. Paul Miller born to Clement and Martha Miller in Manti, Utah, on November 22, 1935. Paul passed away peacefully at home December 19, 2023. He married Sylvia Janet Bishop, the love of his life, in the Manti Temple on November 23, 1956. During those 67 years they raised five wonderful children: Larry, Debra, Michelle, Kirk, and Sherree.

After graduating from Brigham Young University in Education, his career included teaching at West Bountiful Elementary but largely at Centerville Junior High and Mueller Park Junior High teaching mathematics. He was loved by his students.

Quiet by nature, Paul had a witty sense of humor and a nickname for everyone he loved. His impeccable fashion sense was a distinctive trait. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he and Sylvia served missions together in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Centerville Deseret Industries, the Provo MTC, and together in the Bountiful Temple.

"Tall Paul's" gentle giant stature and calming presence endeared him to many.  His teasing was a sign of love, and his quiet, peaceful demeanor reflected his unwavering commitment to those he cared about.

Fond memories include his love for baked goods from Dick’s Bakery, Arctic Circle shakes, floating on a raft at Lake Powell, building his home in Bountiful, supporting his loved ones in their activities, and driving in his truck with his window down, listening to AM radio.

In the hearts of those who knew him, Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, teacher, and friend.  He is leaving a legacy of warmth, laughter, dedication, and love.

Paul was preceded in death by parents Clement and Martha, brothers Morgan and Rodney, and grandson Matthew Paul. He is survived by his sister Marilyn, children Larry (Rhonda), Michelle Layton (Dean), Debbie Baird, Kirk (Michelle), Sherree Schultz (Matt), along with 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to thank friends, neighbors, Dr. Oaks and the staff at Bountiful Internal Medicine, and Eric Loveridge and the staff at Dick’s Family Pharmacy for their love and support. We are so grateful to all those who blessed his life.
