Listen to Obituary

A happy reunion of family and friends gathered to celebrate the 95th birthday of Leonard Jay Wall on May 30, 2026. Another happy reunion occurred 10 days later as Jay was reunited in heaven with his loving companion Carol, who has been waiting 24 years for his arrival.

His family is grateful for the time he devoted to making life worth remembering. Jay’s children were taught the life skills of understanding others, listening to others, and serving others by his example.

Leonard Jay Wall was born in Vernal, Utah, to Leonard Pearl Wall and Vista Josephine Atwood on May 29, 1931. He was a wonderful brother to 8 siblings who remember him fondly, “There was not a better guy in the world! Jay was always uplifting, encouraging and generous.”

Jay graduated from Altamont High School, class of 1949, where he excelled in two things: athletics and attracting a young Miss Carol Elliott. They tied the knot on August 25, 1950. They spent 52 years together – hand in hand – busily raising an active family, working, traveling and serving the Lord.

Two sons and a daughter, were born of this union. They and their spouses survive him: Steven & Rosemary Wall, Larry & Connie Wall, and Wendi & Bob Shegrud. His posterity includes 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He and Carol established a home filled with faith and fun. And their door was always open to family, friends and even strangers. In fact, he was that guy, “who never met a stranger”. One friend put it this way “his kindness, goodness and love has touched endless lives. He has certainly touched ours in ways words can't express.”

His co-workers revered him as the man who believed in their worth and ability to achieve their potential.

As a bishop, he quietly led others to – and along the covenant path. And just like the Savior gathered the wandering lamb, Bishop Wall had an eye out for the strays. Many individuals and families were blessed to be among his flock.

Jay was loved by so many more people.

Those lucky enough to be in his extended family. The in-laws and outlaws of the Wall and Elliott clans.

Those who cooked for and served him at the Sunshine Cafe and the Joy Luck Restaurant.

Those caretakers he flirted with from Canyon Home Care & Hospice.

Those who worked with him at Griffin Wheel, Kennecott, and Flying J Oil Refinery.

Those who spent time with him in the mountains – camping and hunting.

Or on the lake netting a lunker and listening as the fish got bigger each time the story was told.

Most of all he was loved by his family – who heard his robust, voluminous voice cheering for them at ballgames; and in quieter times, those who heard the wisdom of his words as blessings, prayers and advice were humbly offered.

Services to honor him will be held at: Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main St., Bountiful, Utah
