Leonard Truman Luckenbach

June 7, 1939 — May 26, 2026

My sweetheart, Leonard Truman Lukenbach, 86 of Park City, Utah, passed away on May 26, 2026 after complications from surgery.

He was born on June 7, 1939 to Leonard and Mary Elsie Lukenbach. He was the second of four children. At a young age he joined the Elks Boys Club and learned to box. He trained with the World Middleweight Champion, Gene Fulmer and his manager, Marv Jensen. Because he was such a good boxer and was never knocked out, Marv Jensen nick named him Lucky. This name stuck with him for the rest of his life.

He won the Golden Gloves 8 times in several states. While boxing in Chicago, he was in the same weight class (light heavy weight) as Cassius Clay (Mohammad Ali). They could have fought one another, but Cassius lost in a previous round. Lucky saw him in the weight room asked him what happened because he looked so good. Cassius replied that he was out partying all night.

Lucky started working on radiators when he was attending South High School. He soon owned his own radiator business and continued for over sixty years until he retired in 2020.

Lucky married Kitty Koolhoven and together they had five children, Katy Jo Gonzales, Janie Lukenbach, Terri (Bill) Reiss, Jeff (Alejandra) Lukenbach, Lori (Tim) Bloomquist. They later divorced.

Although he was raised in Salt Lake City, Lucky quickly learned that it was too busy for him. He found a lot and built the first house in Silver Creek Estates in Park City, Utah. Many people thought he was crazy since there were no roads and he had to use a generator for power and had to snowmobile to the house once the snow started falling.

When Lucky's Son-in-law and grandson died in a house fire, Lucky stepped up and volunteered to raise the surviving three children, Candice, Antonia, and Michael. He was always grateful for the opportunity to help others.

Not only was Lucky a great boxer, but he loved ballroom dancing, especially the swing and the waltz. He often went to the Murray Arts Center where he later met LuAnn Hayes. In addition to being an amazing dance partner, he was extremely charming and kind. Soon the women at the Murray Arts Center lost a part time dance partner, but LuAnn gained a forever dance partner.

After many hours of dancing and dating they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in January 2007. They were able to spend twenty years dancing, traveling and enjoying life in Park City.

He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity and acceptance of everyone. He always had a smile on his face and twinkle in his eyes.

He is survived by his wife, LuAnn, his brother Richard, his children Terri (Bill) Reiss, Jeff Lukenbach (Alejandra), and Lori (Tim) Bloomquist as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elaine and Susan, his two daughters, Katy Jo and Janie, son-in-law Rudy Gonzales and grandson Rudy Gonzales, Jr.
