Our treasured mom, grandma, great grandma (GG), and aunt passed from this earthly life with her children by her side on May 27, 2026, at the amazing age of 102. Though she would tell you that she was only 2.
LaVon and her identical twin LaVerne Brown Mechling were born July 25, 1923, to William Vernile Brown and Rhoda Ann Christensen at their home in Magna, UT. LaVon followed LaVerne by 15 min. Lavon was blessed with 3 other sisters, Lola Brown Beck, Wilma Brown DaRonch and Marilyn Brown Coats. She grew up in the Salt Lake Valley with her family settling in Granger, where she learned her work ethics by helping her father plow the fields, and take care of the animals.
LaVon attended school at Monroe and Forrest Elem, then Granger and Cyprus High. If they missed the bus, it was a long walk home. It was a trek she took more than once. Later in life she attended the LDS Business College for bookkeeping.
During WWII, supporting the war efforts LaVon worked at Kennecott Copper cleaning the wheels of the trains. She also worked for the Remington Arms Ammunition plant. After that, she worked for Phillips 66 Refinery, then the Davis Co. School District as a Lunch Lady where she really enjoyed the children and her co-workers. Her last job was as a bookkeeper at Dahles' Big and Tall Store.
LaVon met her husband Carmen after the war. She was part of the "red shirt gang" that went roller skating at the S&M Roller rink. A mutual friend introduced them. Carmen didn't like to go roller skating, so he took LaVon dancing. They were married on June 10, 1948, in the Salt Lake Temple. Later they were blessed with 3 children, Christine, Steven and Sharon. LaVon and Carmen lived in Bountiful and then they bought a house in Glendale where they resided until they bought their house in Bountiful in Dec. 1955. There they raised their children. Carmen passed away on March 28, 1975. LaVon was a widow for 51 years and remained in the house until about 6 years ago when she moved to Murray to live with her son.
LaVon was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served as a visiting teacher touching many lives, worked in the ward library and in the Primary as a nursery leader. She also served a mission at the Church office building, finding lost members.
LaVon loves her family very deeply. She always wanted them to be happy, and she found great joy in their accomplishments, whatever they were. She loved to quilt, a joy she got from her mother (they are part of the original long arm quilters). She sewed many items for her family. She would bottle fruits and jams that her family would enjoy all winter long. She passed these loves to her children. LaVerne taught LaVon to crochet, so she took that new talent, and she made each one of her great grandchildren an Afghan for their birth. She has made many other Afghans for family members. She loved to work in her yard and took great joy in her flowers.
LaVon is survived by her children Steve (Marilyn) of Murray, Sharon (Michael) Nichols of West Jordan, Son-in-law Michael Morris of West Valley; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Carmen Albertson, her daughter Christine Albertson Morris, her sisters Lola Beck, LaVerne Mechling, Wilma DaRonch, Marilyn Coats, sister-in-law Alta June Bird and their spouses.
