Larry Dale Polson, a beloved father, husband, neighbor, and friend, passed away in South Weber on August 8, 2024, at the age of 90. Larry was born May 3,1934 in Mountain View, Wyoming to Erick Oscar Polson and Bessie Lenore Jackman. He was a graduate of the Class of ‘52 Ogden High School Tigers. On February 20, 1969, he married Jeanne Harrop Polson, and they were later sealed for eternity in the Ogden, Utah temple on March 9, 1974. Larry and Jeanne celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before Jeanne’s passing.
Larry loved his family and neighbors, always telling them so and giving hugs to everyone who would let him. He was a caring father, and his greatest joy came from spending time with and serving his family and friends. Whether patrolling the streets of South Weber as part of the neighborhood watch or clearing snow for his neighbors with his trusty snowblower, Larry enjoyed serving his neighbors.
Larry briefly served in the Utah National Guard and Army Reserves and was a lifelong blood donor, reflecting his deep commitment to service. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many callings but may have most enjoyed being a member of the Seventy and serving as a ward clerk, creating neighborhood directories. In his later years Larry enjoyed doing temple work with his friend and neighbor R.L. Cope.
Larry’s career at Hill Air Force Base spanned thirty-eight years, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic, electronics technician, and equipment specialist. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, watching sports (especially BYU football), and sitting on the front porch to chat with neighbors that passed by. He had a knack for fixing just about anything and liked keeping up with computers and other new technology. He spent countless hours on his computer scanning and organizing photos, writing his history, and emailing family and friends.
Larry will be greatly missed here on earth, but we take comfort in knowing that he has returned home to a joyous reunion with many loved ones who have passed on before him, including his own father who died when Larry was just six months old. His legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his children Ricky (Nicki) Polson, Cindy (Butch) Wheeler, Erick (Shanna) Long, Tim (Georgia) Long, Sherry Polson (David), Jeannette (Cody) Edwards, Diane (Tyson) Green; 21 Grandchildren; 61 Great Grand-Children. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter Mariah Waldroup, wife Jeanne Harrop, brother Glen (Barbara) Polson, and parents Bessie P. Mulligan and Erick O. Polson.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all those who cared for Larry in his final years, including his devoted friend and neighbor of nearly 40 years, R.L. Cope, the incredible staff at both Petersen Farms Assisted living (Kyleigh, Kenzie, Quincee, Kaitlin, Karla, Allyson, Lily, Claire, Jaime, Jamie, Riley, Sydney, Willow, Yesenia, Yero, Ashley, Sav, Talan, Christina, and Alex) and Canyon Home Care and Hospice (Chris, Bruce, Kalena, and Tiesha). Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for your kindness and service to Larry.
