Kirk D. Mitchell

Kirk D. Mitchell, 66, of West Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2026.

Kirk was born on June 27, 1960, to Eli and Dixie Mitchell. He graduated from Viewmont High School and went on to become a dedicated employee of the State of Utah Job Service.

Kirk was, at heart, a simple and old-fashioned family man. He loved his family deeply and found happiness in the things that mattered most to him: time spent with the people he loved, the outdoors, good music, and a life lived without unnecessary fuss. There was rarely a time you would see Kirk without his Cowboy Cut Wranglers, button up shirt and a ball cap on.

When spring and summer arrived, Kirk could often be found working in his garden, taking great pride in building something beautiful each year. He loved the mountains and cruising the trails in his side-by-side. Hunting was another favorite pastime, particularly deer hunting on the Jacketta family property and spending time dove hunting in the desert.

Some of Kirk’s greatest memories were made watching his kids rodeo. Being there for his family and watching them do what they loved brought him tremendous pride and happiness.

Music was also a constant companion throughout Kirk’s life. He loved the sounds of old country, especially Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, along with the classic rock songs he enjoyed over the years.

Kirk is survived by his children Troy (Alli) Wasserman and Amanda Wasserman; his grandchildren Talli Wasserman and Bryn Wasserman (Abie); his great-grandchildren Calvin and Kimberly; his brothers Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Mitchell, John (Judy) Mitchell and his sister Lurena Mitchell and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and loving wife, Janice Mitchell and his parents Eli and Dixie Mitchell.

Kirk’s life was not defined by extravagance, but by the things he valued most: family, hard work, the outdoors, and the simple pleasures of a life well lived. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will remain with those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah 84010.

A celebration of Kirk’s life will immediately follow the graveside service at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 67, 1104 West 2100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106.

In lieu of flowers, Kirk’s kids ask that you join them in the way they believe he would appreciate most: come share memories, raise a glass, and have a beer with them at the FOE 67 as they celebrate a simple man who loved his family and a life spent outdoors.
