Karin Amalie Olsen

October 23, 1936 — July 4, 2024

Farmington, Utah

Karin slipped away peacefully on the night of July 4th, 2024 in her home in Farmington, Utah. Karin was the daughter of Willi Karl Kreter and Gertrud Frieda Siebert. She was born on the 23rd of October 1936 in Hildesheim, Germany.

As a child, Karin endured the hardships of war torn Germany during World War II. She immigrated from Germany to Edmonton, Alberta when she was 19 years old after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After two years, she immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Evan Quain Olsen on the 8th of December 1959 in San Antonio, Texas while he was attending the National Security Cryptologic School. She and Evan moved back to Germany after Evan was transferred there, and while in Germany, her daughter Julie was born. After a wonderful time in Germany, they moved to Livorno, Italy and stayed there for one year. Upon returning to the United States from Italy, they lived in Salt Lake City where their two sons John Corbin and Byron Christopher were born.

One of Karin's greatest joys was being a school teacher at Knowlton Elementary where she worked for 17 years. In 1992, she was awarded the Hall of Fame Teacher of the Year for the state of Utah. For that honor, she was sent to Washington, DC where she shook the hand of the President of the United States. The impact of her loving service will be felt for generations.

Her final residence was in Farmington, Utah where she enjoyed ten grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren and a host of wonderful neighbors.

Karin is survived by her husband Evan, her two sons John and Christopher, her daughter-in-law Charity Olsen, her son-in-law Layne Nielson and her brother Klaus Helmut Kreter. Karin was preceded in death by her daughter Julie Caprice Nielson, her grandson Bretten Lee Olsen, and her brother Peter Hans Kreter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday July 13th at the Farmington Utah Compton Bench Ward Chapel, 850 N 300 W. Farmington, Utah. A viewing will take place prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
