Karen “Ileene” McQueary was born April 22, 1948, to LeGrand & Leola Chandler. After fighting and eventually succumbing to several infections, she passed away January 14, 2026, at the age of 77.
Ileene was a lifelong resident of Centerville. She graduated from Viewmont High School in 1966. She completed her cosmetology training at Weber State College and then following in her mother's footsteps, worked in that field for more than 40 years. Her clients were also her dear friends. They kept their weekly appointments in her basement salon not only to get their hair done, but to also enjoy the friendship and comradery.
Ileene met David McQueary in 1969, and they were married January 30, 1970. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 3 children. She was devoted to her family. She has been such a light in our lives. She was a selfless angel who spent all of her days serving, thinking of, praying for and being concerned about her family and friends. She was an amazing mother and grandmother who taught us by word and example to be kind, serve others, and to be good disciples of Christ. She had many cherished friends who she loved and who loved her. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was diligent in her church callings, temple worship, and indexed thousands of names.
Ileene was preceded in death by both of her parents and brother, Brent Chandler. She is survived by her sisters Jeralie Wirthlin and Linda Chandler, her husband David McQueary, sons David J. McQueary, Jon McQueary and daughter Megan (Ryan) Allen as well as six grandchildren: Jacob, Leah (Zane), Daniel, Haylie, Caden and Layla and has one great-granddaughter on the way.
Our family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, CNAs and specialized therapists that were so kind and worked so hard to help mom try to overcome her health issues, especially those from Holy Cross Davis Hospital and Northern Utah Rehabilitation Hospital. Also, the amazing nurses and CNAs from Atlas Homecare and Hospice who helped her and us through the last few weeks.
There will be a viewing and funeral on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel located at 610 N. Rowland Way in Centerville, Utah. The viewing will be from 9:45-10:45 a.m. and the funeral will start at 11:00 a.m.
