It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Karen Mason, a devout Christian who loved her Lord. Karen died at her home on April 28, 2026 due to complications from congestive heart failure and a prior stroke.
Karen was born on October 23, 1950 in Ogden, Utah to Konrad and Norma Smurthwaite who are now deceased. She was married shortly after graduating from High School and had two children, Tiffiny and Wiliam. She met and married her husband Marlin Mason in 1984.
Karen worked for the goverment in an administrative role throughout her career and both she and her husband retired in 2009. She was known for her work ethic, kindness and commitment to others.
Karen was a member of Alpine church, Riverdale and was very active as a teacher in Kids Church. She touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that lives on in all of us.
Karen’s lifelong dream was to be able to go to Africa and find Tarzan. After retiring she was able to visit and go on safari in Africa three separate times.
Karen is survived by her husband Marlin; daughter Tiffiny; son William; sister Susan; brothers Steve and Kim; grandchildren Brice, Logan, Joshua, Hannah, Michelle and Temperance; great grandchild Mason, along with many other family and friends. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, kindness and belief in Jesus Christ that were the essence of Karen’s being.
A memorial service will be held at the Alpine Church in Riverdale, Utah on May 9, 2026 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations go the above church.
