After living a life of selfless service, Karen Bowen Alvey passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, due to complications of dementia.
Karen was born September 5, 1944, to Robert and Ruth Bowen and was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Karen entered the world alongside her identical twin and lifelong best friend, Sharon. The two sisters were inseparable for most of their lives and were known throughout Davis County as the “Bowen twins.” Their bond was one of deep love and friendship, and being an identical twin was a special gift that Karen cherished throughout her life. Those who knew them often said you rarely saw one without the other.
In 1964, she married Larry Tingey and was blessed with two daughters, Jacque and Debra. Later they divorced. In 1978, she married the love of her life, Ronald Alvey, and together they welcomed another daughter to their family, Mandy.
Karen was loved by so many, both young and old. When her family was asked to describe her, the words that came to mind were compassionate, caring, humble, giving, kind, and beautiful—physically, but even more beautiful on the inside. She was soft-spoken, gentle, and full of grace, yet strong in her quiet way. She was a caregiver to many, a warrior through life’s challenges, and to those who loved her most, she was simply our angel.
Karen’s greatest joy in life was her family, and she always made sure their needs were taken care of before her own. Her home was a favorite gathering place for family and friends who were always welcomed with warmth and love.
In her later years, as she faced the challenges of dementia, Karen was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband, Ron, who remained faithfully by her side and cared for her with patience and love until the very end.
Karen will always be remembered as a woman with a strong faith in Christ who exemplified His love in all she did.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Bowen Jr. (Dixie), her sister, Sharon Blackburn; and her daughters, Jacque Martineau, Debra Robertson, and Mandy Martin. She was also blessed with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy and whom she loved deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Scotty.
While our family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, the weight of losing such a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and wife will be deeply felt by those who were closest to her.
