June Marie Lorenzen Stewart, 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 30, 2023, due to cancer. Born in Long Beach, California on March 2, 1934, to Andrew Bryan and Alta Lucena Marcil Lorenzen. She married Merwin Udall Stewart in the Los Angeles temple on August 20, 1956.
June grew up in a loving home in Long Beach where her parents cherished her as their only child. She gained a love of music while learning how to play the piano, organ and violin. She also loved being at the ocean and was an excellent swimmer. As a youth, she traveled often to various states to visit relatives. Her mother’s love of education and children instilled in her a desire to pursue an elementary education degree from Brigham Young University. This was followed by several years of teaching before having her own family of 7 children.
June met her eternal companion, Merwin, while attending Brigham Young University. They met while volunteering at a farm which set the foundation of their desire to serve and help others. June and Merwin moved to Indiana after their 1st child to finish education. Afterwards they moved to Bell California where they made many lifetime friends and added 4 more children before moving to Bountiful, Utah in 1970. Two more children completed the family, an amazing feat for an only child to bring 7 babies into this world!
June spent many years supporting Merwin in his career in Insurance and his various church callings. She devoted many of her days taking care of her family and serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. She enjoyed serving a mission with her husband in the Sydney Australia mission for 16 months. She served several years in the Bountiful Temple which she loved. She cared for her husband without complaint who suffered with Alzheimer's until his death in 2016. She was a true disciple of Christ as she radiated light and love to those around her.
She is survived by children: Wayne (Marlene), Bruce (Yvonne), Scott (Leslie), Laura (Maurits) Noot, Sara (Chris) Wilkin, David (Kristin), Rick (Marianne); 32 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren (with two on the way). She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
