Joyce Powell Sorenson

Joyce Powell Sorenson passed away on 15 June 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born on the 4th of July 1939 in Lehi, Utah to Augustus James and Verla Thayne Powell and was raised there on the family's small farm where she learned the blessing of hard work. After high school, she served an honorable mission to the Great Lakes area. She was employed by Mountain Bell, Utah Tax Commission and also the Davis County School District during her lifetime.

She married her husband, Bill, on Sept 12th, 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple and they raised their two daughters, Lisa and Terri Lyn, in Woods Cross. Joyce had a fervent testimony of our Lord and His gospel. She served the Woods Cross 5th Ward in many capacities. She, Bill and Terri served a mission at the Kaysville Bishop's Storehouse, which she loved.

Joyce was the consummate homemaker. She was an excellent cook, an award-winning seamstress, an immaculate housekeeper and a meticulous gardener. Her most amazing accomplishment, however, was that of devoting her life to developing the many talents in their special daughter, Terri Lyn.

Terri learned how to cook, sew, dance, play the piano and ice skate among other accomplishments. Her Mom was famous for all the gorgeous skating costumes she sewed for most of Terri's performances. Terri even took some vocal lessons and sang at recitals.

Joyce loved her grandchildren immensely and was so proud of all their accomplishments in the church and at college. She cared deeply for each and their lives.

Despite her many health issues in recent years, she never complained about them and was always concerned about others even until her passing.

Joyce will sorely be missed by all who loved and knew her. Survived by her husband, Bill, two daughters, Lisa (Sean Thornton) and Terri Lyn. Four grandchildren, Alex, Spencer, Nathan and Kylee (Chase) Christopherson and her sisters, Margie Richardson and Jaydene Baily.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Woods Cross 5th Ward, 2064 South 800 West, Woods Cross, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, and Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m., at the church prior to services. Interment- Bountiful City Cemetery.
