Joyce Child Frasier

August 28, 1934 — July 2, 2021

Joyce Child Frasier passed away peacefully on July 2, 2021. She was born on August 28, 1934 in Bountiful, Utah to Harry and Hazel Child. Joyce was a beautiful redhead who excelled in many areas including theater, art and design, writing, and sewing. She graduated from Davis High School in 1952 and married her sweetheart Ralph Frasier on September 5 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As eighteen-year-olds they started a successful business, Television Electronics, in Ogden. Four years and three children later, they sold the business so Ralph could begin college. He earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Utah. Joyce was an integral part of the process as she edited and typed his papers, including Ralph’s Masters thesis. After graduation – with five children in tow – they lived in New Jersey, Ohio and Arizona.
Eventually Joyce and Ralph settled in Bountiful. The family grew to seven children-Mikel who passed away in 2008 (Phyllis), Dr. Lori Frasier (Dr. Michael Kramer), Robyn (Jeff Robinson), Jan (John Maltby), Brett (Melanie), Lisa and Shawn (Jill) – as well as nineteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Joyce received her Bachelors (Phi Beta Kappa) and Masters degrees from the University of Utah and worked as a social worker for the Davis County Council on Aging. She painted, sewed, restored furniture, wrote articles for local papers, gardened, and was a lifelong patron of the theater in Utah and on Broadway.
Joyce and Ralph were a formidable team: building and remodeling homes, working on their large property, and travelling widely. Joyce was a Relief Society president twice and for many years served as a Gospel Doctrine Sunday school teacher. After Ralph’s death in 1999, she was a docent at the LDS Conference Center, and continued to explore the world as an intrepid traveler.
Joyce showed great courage as she faced the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease. Until the end, she had a quick wit, was usually found with a book in her hands, and showed immense joy in her new great-grandchildren. Joyce was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, loved her faith and family, and looked forward to being reunited with Ralph, her son Mikel, and her parents and grandparents.
As a family we are grateful for the care Joyce received from her daughter Lisa Kearney, her aide Ofa Alilia Sitake, Joanne Killim, her loyal and loving friend, David Gee, Physical Therapist with South Davis Home Health, the Hearts for Hospice staff and Creekside Senior Living Memory Care. In lieu of flowers Joyce requested contributions be made to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (churchofjesuschrist.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah (alz.org). Join us in honoring her memory by donating to fight the ravages of this unthinkable disease.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Lakeview Memorial Park, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
