1953 Jon 2026

Jon Walter Stoddard

March 31, 1953 — January 20, 2026

Our beloved brother Jon Walter Stoddard peacefully passed away on January 20, 2026 from cancer. He was born March 31, 1953 to Lynn and Loraine Stoddard and was number 3 of 12 children. He often commented on why he had to put up with 8 sisters; but when it came right down to it, he was always the first one to stand up for them.

Jon was an intellect. He had the brain of a scientist and would love taking things apart and putting them back together. His passion, however, was sports. His sisters enjoyed spending time with him as he patiently taught them the techniques of throwing a baseball, the art of making a basket, hitting a tennis ball, and volleyball became the family favorite. His brothers were able to play golf with him. He was an exceptional athlete and even played a little professional volleyball where he met Wilt Chamberlain and had him sign his drivers license. He also tried out for the Salt Lake Trappers baseball team.

Jon loved people. Even though he was gruff on the outside, his heart was full of kindness and secret service. He went about doing good and never wanted to take credit for it. He was always the first to send you a Happy Birthday text. He would walk every morning with his sisters and shout out greetings to people passing by. His dry sense of humor was often misunderstood.

He graduated from Davis High School and went on to serve a mission to Johannesburg, South Africa where he loved learning a new language and being in a foreign country.

He went to the University of Utah for several years. He spent most of his time in the PE building where he made friends with all the players and coaches. His last wish was to donate his body to the U.

Jon had three children; Tim, Trevor, and Tasia. They were the joys of his life and even through all his challenges, he never stopped loving them and was so proud of all their accomplishments.

He is survived by his two children, Trevor and Tasia and by his 11 siblings and their spouses.

We wish to express thanks to The Villas at Baer Creek and Independence Home Health and Hospice for their tender care.

Being a family means you are loved and will be loved forever, even during the difficult times. We are so thankful for our brother Jon and know we will see him again.

Mother Teresa said, “What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family”.

In honor of Jon, may we make the world a little better by loving our families and spreading kindness wherever we go.

The family will do a special Celebration of life for Jon on his birthday March 31st, 2026.
