Leon Sorenson

John Leon Sorenson Sr. (Leon), of Farmington, UT, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the age of 84, with his beloved wife, Pat, and several family members by his side.

Leon was born in Ely, NV, on October 28, 1938, to John Edgar and Afton Christensen Sorenson. He was married and sealed to his eternal companion, Patricia Campbell, in the Salt Lake Temple on May 30, 1963. Leon was the father of six children: John Sorenson (Tonya), Cindy Morris (Tim), James Sorenson (Heather), Erik Sorenson (Renee), Neal Sorenson (Juli), and Chris Sorenson (Becky). He was blessed with 31 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Leon graduated with an MPA from Brigham Young University and served as the Executive Vice President of the Utah Medical Association and CEO of UMAFS. He was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission in Central America and holding various callings including Bishop, stake president, and patriarch.

In his free time, he loved to read and was an avid fisherman. He loved his fishing trips to Alaska but above all, he loved fishing with his family at Tamarack Lake in the Uintah Mountains.

Leon was honest, fun, full of integrity, and completely devoted to his faith and family. For this, we will be forever grateful.

The visitation is planned for Monday, February 6, from 6-8 PM, at Russon Mortuary (1941 N Main St, Farmington, UT). A second visitation is planned for Tuesday, February 7, from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by the funeral, to be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (695 South 200 East, Farmington, UT). A graveside service will follow at the Farmington City Cemetery (500 South 200 East, Farmington, UT).

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page.  The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
