John MacArthur Burnett

John MacArthur Burnett saddled up for his final ride on May 17, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on July 1, 1939, John lived a life full of purpose, faith, and love—and he made sure to remind us every morning that “The day is half over!” (even if it was only 6:00 a.m.).

John was the beloved husband of Maryann Weight Burnett, his sweetheart and partner in all things for 63 wonderful years. Together, they raised a family rooted in love and laughter. He is survived by his son AJ (Sara), daughters Elizabeth (Rock) and Angela (Lynn), and 12 grandchildren who knew Papa would always be in the stands, rain or shine, whether it was a football game, a school play, a dance competition, or a graduation.

John lived a life marked by devotion to his family and his faith. A committed member and employee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, John served missions in England and Ukraine. He spent his life in service to others, always ready with a quick smile, a helping hand, or a good book recommendation. He had a deep love for learning, and if you ever needed a fact, a scripture, or a random tidbit, John was your man.

He may not have worn a cowboy hat every day, but he lived by the cowboy code: work hard, speak true, ride for the brand, and never miss a chance to support family. His legacy rides on in the lives he touched. We’ll miss his wisdom, his example, and his love. All are welcome to come celebrate the life of a man who made every day count—even if it was already half over by sunrise.

Visitation will take place at Russon Mortuary, located at 295 N Main Street in Bountiful, Utah, on Friday, May 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel, immediately prior to the funeral service.

The funeral service will follow on Saturday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 690 N 400 W in Centerville, Utah.
