It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jeremy Reed Brummett.
Jeremy was born on November 16, 1978, in Bountiful to Randy Brummett and Jeri Kailing.
He was raised in Bountiful and graduated from Woods Cross High School in May 1997. He later attended Weber State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, May 2002.
Jeremy proudly served in the United States Army from 2003 to 2012, quickly rising the ranks to Staff Sergeant. During the Battle of Ramadi in Iraq, and again as Platoon Sergeant in Afghanistan, he led his team on hundreds of combat missions clearing improvised explosive devices and providing safe passage for Marines, Soldiers, and civilians. On multiple occasions his personal actions saved the lives of his teammates as he repeatedly evacuated wounded Soldiers from the battlefield under fire. His courage and leadership in combat were instrumental in ensuring that every one of his Soldiers came home alive. For his actions he was awarded 2 Bronze Star Medals, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Badge, along with many other honors and decorations, including two that exemplify his dedication, proficiency, and professionalism, the Expert Marksmanship Badge and Army Physical Fitness Badge. SSG Brummett was a model Soldier and Leader. He is loved and missed by all who were honored to serve beside him.
In April 2014, Jeremy graduated from POST and began his law enforcement career with the Ogden Police Department, where he served in patrol, the Crime Reduction Unit, and on the SWAT team. In 2018, he laterally transferred to the Salt Lake City Police Department, serving in Patrol where Jeremy received a Life Saving Award for his quick actions that resulted in saving a life. Jeremy was honored with the opportunity to join the Auto Theft Unit as a detective, later bringing his expertise and dedication to the Violent Crimes/Robbery Unit.
On May 27, 2017, Jeremy married his beloved wife, Jessi. Together they built a wonderful life in West Haven. Jeremy was a devoted husband, a proud father to Alexia and Nataliah, and a loving grandfather to Athena and Locklyn.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his parents, Randy Brummett and Jeri Kailing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jessi Brummett; his daughter Alexia Brummett (partner McKay and grandchildren Athena and Locklyn), his daughter Nataliah Brummett; his sister Kim Mortensen, brother Kelly Shultz, brother Jason Brummett (wife Heather), and brother Christopher Kailing, 7 nieces, 5 nephews along with many extended family members, friends, fellow officers, and military brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2026 at the Washington Heights Church, 1770 East 6200 South, Ogden, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. prior to services. Services under the direction of Russon Mortuary.
