Jennifer Pitt Bredthauer stepped through the veil into eternity on September 30, 2026. Her husband and daughter were with her at her home in Oak Harbor, Washington.
Jennifer was born on December 21, 1960 to her parents, Charles and Margaret Pitt, in Cambridge, England. Her family soon moved to Bountiful, Utah, where Jennifer grew up with her two older brothers and two younger sisters. She was a playful, happy girl, who enjoyed her piano lessons, crafting, and baking cookies and fudge. She was curious about nature, didn’t mind getting dirty, and wasn’t bothered by snakes and frogs. Jennifer liked going to church and looked forward to back scratching time with her brothers after the sacrament.
Jennifer graduated from Woods Cross High School, where she played the string bass in the orchestra, sang in the Madrigals choir, and was a lead in several high school musicals. Jennifer studied Elementary Education at Brigham Young University, and would go on to teach 5th, 4th, and 3rd grade. She did well academically and continued to develop her skills on the piano. Jennifer served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tapei, Taiwan, and loved the people she served with.
Jennifer married Carl Bredthauer in the Salt Lake Temple on September 12, 1986. They shared a life together for forty years. They lived for several years in Farmington. She started a children’s choir with a friend, for which she played the piano. They moved to Kaysville in 1997, the place Jennifer would call home. She and Carl had five children. She always helped her children with the activities they were involved in, such as sewing costumes or flags, driving to practices, accompanying instruments on the piano, or supporting them in the audience. Jennifer taught preschool and piano lessons to countless children. Later, she worked with severely disabled young adults and loved her time with them. She was a loving mother and teacher to all children she interacted with and truly saw them as beloved children of God. Jennifer and Carl moved to Sandersville, Georgia, for two years, and she loved the people she met and made many dear friends. They lived for two and a half years in Oak Harbor, Washington, where
Jennifer loved watching the ocean and made many more new friends. Jennifer was loved by all who met her, because she loved them so easily.
As a lifelong lover of music, Jennifer could often be found at the piano bench. She loved to practice, play for the ward choir, accompany instrumental solos, play in musicals, and volunteer at the local hospital by playing in the lobby. Jennifer loved working with fabric and yarn, and made beautiful and intricate quilts, crocheted doilies and hand towels, and always made special quilts for her new grandbabies. Her fudge was delicious and a highlight of the Christmas season. Jennifer loved to read the Book of Mormon and was diligent in her gospel studies. All who knew her could tell that she loved Jesus Christ. She also deeply loved her grandchildren, and welcomed all thirteen of them with love and enthusiasm. She was always ready to sing a song, read a book, or play a game with any grandchild, and always gave her full attention and love. When Jennifer was diagnosed with cancer, she remained positive throughout her treatment, and often sang, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Carl; her children, Sarah (Andrew) Fassmann, Melanie, Matthew (Kathryn Heitkamp), Leslie (Hyrum) Norton, and Daniel (Hannah); thirteen grandchildren; her siblings Roland, William (Stacee), Roseanne, and Barbara (Scott) Terrill. In the eternities, she joins her parents, Charles and Margaret, her baby sister Wendy, beloved grandmother Vera, and many others who loved her.
