On a beautiful spring afternoon, surrounded by family, our wife, mother, and grandmother was released from this mortal existence into the arms of her Heavenly Father. On Friday, April 1, 2011, Jean realized a long awaited reunion with her mother Sarah, and her father, James. She was born March 12, 1931 in Winton, Wyoming, a Union Pacific coal mining town, to James and Sarah Henderson. Jean married Peter Spangenberg on June 29, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Throughout her life Jean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many capacities. She served as Assistant Manager of Local 354 I.B.E.W. Federal Credit Union for nearly 30 years and retired in 1995. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, never complaining, although in poor health for many years. She was accepting of everyone and gave unconditional love to all those who knew her. One of her favorite phrases was “be nice.” Jean was preceded in death by her parents James and Sarah and her brother Leonard. She is survived by her husband, Peter, of 62 years; sons, Gary (Denise), Craig (LuAnn), Danny (Debbie) and Joe (Jana); brothers James (Darlene), Richard (Ann) and Ray; 18 grandchildren; and, 7 great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W., Bountiful, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund or the American Cancer Society.
