Janice Annette Booth Lamb, affectionately known as Jani, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Home on November 1, 2025, after a multi-year, courageous battle with the Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away at home, her hand held by her devoted husband, Mike. Jani was a truly great woman; a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, friend, and neighbor, whose sparkling personality left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Early Life and Education
Jani was born on September 12, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, to Max Ralph Booth and Helen Chapman Whitney Booth. Her childhood was filled with joy, playing with her older sister, Sallie, and later welcoming a brother, Marvin, and a younger sister, Barbara. A special memory for Jani was spending time at her father’s store on lower 25th Street, near the Union Pacific Station, where she interacted with the diverse community of Ogden.
She attended Lorin Farr and Wasatch Elementary Schools, followed by Mt. Ogden Junior High and Ogden High School. Known for her good looks and vibrant spirit, she was never without a date. After graduation, Jani and girlfriends traveled to Honolulu for the summer, where she worked in a jewelry and shoe store, which was a perfect fit for her love of both.
A Devoted Partnership
Upon returning home, Jani enrolled at Weber College. While working at the snack bar at Smith’s Food King, she became adept as a “short-order cook”, a skill she built upon from her mother’s teachings. It was there that she met the love of her life, Michael (Mike) Lamb. A shared geology field trip to Zion National Park sealed their courtship when Mike gave Jani his Pin, a treasured pre-engagement ritual. After Mike returned from his two-and-a-half-year mission to France and Switzerland in the French East Mission, they were married.
They settled in Salt Lake City, where Jani temporarily became the “breadwinner” at Smith’s Food King while Mike attended the University of Utah. She graduated from Weber, and Mike graduated from the U. During their school time and shortly after, they welcomed their first two babies, Kristine and Kathi. Mike’s construction career led the young family to move fourteen times over the next five years, during which they added two more children, Mike and Jeff.
Tired of constant travel, Jani and Mike moved their family to Bountiful, Utah, where they found a cherished home and have remained for over 50 years. Though Jani often joked she wanted twelve children, she was blessed with eight, lovingly adding Joshua, Quinnette, Kayleen, and Steven to the family.
Legacy of Service and Faith
Jani was a woman of strong faith and had a deep, abiding belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She often felt the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, giving her comfort and assurance about her mortal journey. She dedicated many years to serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, particularly loving her callings with the Young Women, where she served time and again in presidencies until she was 72 years old. She loved and grew very close to the adult leaders she served alongside. She also spent many years serving as an Ordinance Worker in the Bountiful Temple.
After Mike retired, they answered a call to serve a senior proselyting mission in the Cape Coast, Ghana, Africa Mission, where they touched the lives of many and helped with four missionary zones and four mission branches. They loved the Africans. She enjoyed all her Church callings, but her compassion truly shone through in her quiet service, organizing the widows’ and ladies’ luncheons at church, where she happily cooked, decorated, and socialized with her senior sisters in the neighborhood.
A Joyful Homemaker and Friend
Jani was deeply social and cherished her many friendships. The Lamb home on 600 East was the backdrop for decades of joyful activity. She always looked forward to the monthly couples' dinner group, called “The Group”, that continues to this day. Her home was often buzzing with a quilting group, producing many beautiful quilts, some of which will be on display at her funeral. Jani was also known for hosting countless baby and wedding showers, wedding receptions, Halloween parties complete with hot dogs and treats and welcoming all the children in the neighborhood to stop by anytime and grab a treat from the “Candy Lady.”
Family was paramount. Vacations, with at least three planned annually, included ALL her children and grandchildren, to her favorite destinations: McCall, Idaho, Disneyland & Newport Beach, California, and Lake Powell.
Family Heritage and Survivors
Jani is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Mike Lamb. She is also survived by her eight devoted children:
She leaves behind a beautiful posterity of 25 grandchildren.
Jani is also survived by two siblings: Marvin (Carol) Booth and Barbara (John) Carper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Helen Booth, and her older sister, Sallie (David) Nelson.
Mike would like to extend his sincere thanks to the team at Inspiration Home and Hospice for their loving and kind care. Jani would not have been able to remain at home without the total devotion of her family and the loving care of her granddaughter Teirsa, who spent many hours serving her grandmother.
