Janet Walton passed away peacefully after a short illness on May 17, 2025, to return to live with Heavenly Father. She was born March 23, 1955, to Wayne Alfred and June Lindberg Walton in Tooele, Utah. At the age of 5 the family moved to Shelley, Idaho, which she considered her home and where her childhood memories were made. Her adult years were spent in South Jordan and then later in Kaysville where she had many friends and supporters in her life.
Janet was a lifelong learner. She graduated from Shelley High School and then went to Ricks College and graduated with an Associate’s degree, moving forward she attended Brigham Young University where she received a Bachelor’s degree. She continued to learn, later attending LDS Business College and earning a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Utah.
Janet was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a missionary in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission. She volunteered at the Bishops’ Storehouse for the last 15 years. She held many callings including Stake Relief Society Secretary and Girls Camp Director. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and a desire to serve in whatever area Heavenly Father wanted her to serve.
Janet worked for K-Mart as a department manager, then for the federal government at Dugway Proving Grounds and later for the Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services Office in Salt Lake City. In 2005 she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Veterans Affairs as the Administrative Support Professional of the year for the Western Region.
All this was accomplished by a woman so fragile at birth that her survival was in question. The conditions of her birth saddled her with cerebral palsy. All her life she fought to be recognized for her abilities against those who discounted her considerable talents because of appearances.
Janet loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and took great interest in her nieces and nephews. She loved sharing holidays, vacations, get-togethers and traditions with them. Whenever Janet was around she could be counted on to bring plenty of the best snacks. She is survived by her siblings; Steven and Karen Walton, Eileen and Alan Bridge and Bob and Judy Walton and her nieces and nephews; Terri Gale, Heather Morris, Ellen Rasmussen, Melinda Ross, Kirk Walton, Melanie Earles, Kevin Bridge, Robert Bridge, Jeffrey Bridge, Jennifer Dickerson, Lisa Walton, Scott Walton and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents June and Wayne Walton and her nephew David Walton.
