Janet Kathleen Jensen Scarlet Riggs, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home in West Jordan, Utah, on January 3, 2026 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on June 14, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Delos Jensen and Margaret Lorraine Wilcox. She was a beautiful surprise addition to her older siblings: Richard, Lois, Barbara, and Elaine.
She grew up in the Millcreek area. She enjoyed going on family vacations. Camping and fishing with her dad were some of her favorites.'She was happy, creative, and friendly with a warm heart and a gentle spirit. She was a great listener, deeply thoughtful, and quietly determined. Her kindness was felt by all who knew her, and she had a special gift for making others feel valued and loved.
Janet met George Lawrence Scarlet and was taken by his fun personality. After a short courtship they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 10, 1970. She always wanted to be a mother and found her greatest joy in raising their three children: Chris, Marcy, and Joann. Her marriage to George and raising their family were among her greatest accomplishments and the deepest joys of her life.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Janet worked as a beautician for most of her life, a career that allowed her to care for others in personal and meaningful ways. Later in life, she worked as a secretary for the Utah Department of Health. Janet and George also loved traveling, working on projects and going to their cabin in Fairview. Janet loved creating memories filled with love and laughter.
Janet was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings throughout her life, including Relief Society, Young Women, Primary and serving in the Temple. She loved the people she served with and found great joy in ministering to others. Her faith was an anchor in her life and guided the way she loved and served her family and friends.
She loved her siblings greatly and held deep affection for her in-laws. Janet was also blessed with many dear friends who stood by her during both joyful and challenging seasons of her life. They will always be her forever friends. Her family and friends meant everything to her, and her love for them was constant and unwavering.
After George’s passing, Janet later met and married Ronald K. Riggs of Hatch, Utah on November 11, 2016. She was greatly blessed by the love and acceptance she received from Ron’s children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William Delos Jensen and Margaret Lorraine Wilcox; her husbands, George Lawrence Scarlet and Ronald K. Riggs; and her brother, Richard Delos Jensen. She is survived by her siblings Lois Morgan, Barbara Dalton, and Elaine Fratto; her children Chris (Penny) Scarlet, Marcy (Wayde) Johnson, and Joann (Mark) Spencer; her stepchildren Becky (Joe) Evans, Angie (David) Stone, and Will (Alicia) Riggs; 11 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Janet was deeply loved and tenderly cared for by family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers during the last months of her life. She will be forever grateful for their kindness and compassion. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Copperhills 12th Ward building, 9227 South Wild Clover Lane West Jordan, Utah, where a viewing will be held Wednesday evening 6 - 8pm and Thursday 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to services. Burial and dedication of the grave will follow the service at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S Highland Dr, Millcreek, UT.

Janet’s legacy is one of faith, kindness, service, and deep devotion to her family. Her life was a quiet testimony of love, and her influence will continue to be felt for generations.
