Janet Jordan Hoffmann

Janet Jordan Hoffmann passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2025. She was born October 21, 1935 to Charles William Jordan and Anona Patience Marett in Pine Canyon, Tooele, Utah. She was the youngest child in the family, joining brother, Allan, and sisters Lafay and Joy.

Janet spent her growing up years in Tooele, graduating from Tooele High School. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central States, which covered Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and parts of Illinois. She felt she served in the very best mission, despite having been called to “the land of floods, tornados, [and] fireflies.”

She married Robert Kump, later divorced. Janet married Joachim (Joe) R. Hoffmann, a widower, on March 26, 1987 in the Jordan River Temple. He passed away in 1997 and was greatly missed. Janet’s marriage to Joe brought a new chapter for her as she welcomed not only a new husband, but also children and a growing family of grandchildren into her life and heart, which brought her much joy. Her siblings and her nieces and nephews were also very important to her—she loved them all!

Janet retired from working for the Church in 1998, having worked in both the magazine department andaccounts payable. She was always very active in the Church, holding many callings throughout her life including teaching Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society; serving in MIA and Relief Society presidencies; as a leader and worker in the family history extraction program; ward librarian; activities committee leader and member, as well as fulfilling visiting teaching and ministering assignments. She enjoyed serving as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple, and then in her later years, volunteering in the Bountiful, Utah Temple, taking calls for the prayer roll.

Janet proclaimed herself a lover of “the outdoors, fishing, gardening, Spring, photography, family history, sunsets, temple work, good neighbors, all of God’s creations and GRANDCHILDREN.”

Janet was a good and lasting friend. She continued to keep in touch with friends from high school and her mission, etc. She always had words of encouragement for any in her sphere. She sent birthday cards to family and friends each year.

Janet was blessed to have many special ministering brothers and sisters who looked out for and cared for her over the years.

Janet is survived by her sister, Joy (Jack) Mecham, 7 nieces, 2 nephews, and their children and grandchildren, stepsons Reed (Nena) Hoffmann, Robert (Nancy) Hoffmann, Ray (Karen) Hoffmann, Roger (Malyn) Hoffmann, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, brother Allan and his wife Mauna Jordan, sister Lafay and her husband Earl Asmussen, nieces Carolyn Asmussen and Linda Vancott, and granddaughter, Desirae Hoffmann Lovik.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Burton Ward Chapel, 270 West Burton Lane, Kaysville. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30. Interment will take place at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, Cottonwood Heights.
