Jim passed away on January 10th at the age of 72.
Born in San Luis Obispo, California, to Mary Ellen Burtis and Robert Livingston Colvin, Jim grew up in the Los Angeles area of California. Due to his parents’ jobs, many schools were attended.
Fun times in high school, Jim and his friends all drove Chevrolet Corvairs, his car with racing stripes on it. Loving challenges, on a bridge coming home from school Jim was dared by his friend to shift his car into reverse while driving. The challenge accepted, the transmission promptly fell onto the bridge. Jim was always ready to accept and act on a challenge.
Graduating in 1968 from Verdugo High School in LaCanada, California, Jim went on to Valley State College in the San Fernando Valley.
Joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969, Jim served a full time mission in Missouri. In 1972, Susan Mary Smola and Jim were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Susan were blessed with three children, Itashka, Darrell and Drake. After moving to San Diego, Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Botany from California State College at San Diego.
Moving to Fulton, Missouri, Jim attended nursing school. After he and Susan divorced, he was a truck driver for CFI, and loved traveling all over the United States.
During this exciting time of trucking, he met Dorinda Ann Negley. They married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 6th, 1993. Jim and Dorinda have three children, Emily, Kristal, and Joseph.
Jim loved to tell trucking stories! Due to health issues, he had to quit trucking and worked various other jobs, including selling insurance. Jim was an active member of the LDS church. He loved the gospel, serving faithfully in many callings.
The close family left behind includes his father, Darrell C. Umphenour, sisters Jody Arbuckle (Lynn H.), Jillian Grey, Cathy Colvin, Cheryl Colvin, Camille LeBerteau (Tim), his wife, Dorinda, his children; Itashka Ann Wunderlich (Ethan), Darrell Emory Colvin (Melissa), Drake Robert Colvin, Emily Jean Love (Josh), Kristal Rai Redfearn (Ross), Joseph Livingston Colvin, and twelve grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 650 South 200 East, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location prior to the funeral services from 9:30–10:30 a.m. The interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
