1976 Jake 2025

Jacob Sidney Redd

April 22, 1976 — August 16, 2025

North Salt Lake, UT

Jacob Sidney Redd, husband, father, brother, son and friend passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah from cardiac arrest. He was born April 22,1976, to David and Patti Redd. He was raised in a family of five sons, Jon, Philip, Matthew, Andrew and one daughter, Amy.

Jake’s first home was the University of Utah married student housing, as his father finished law school. The family then lived in New Jersey and France before settling into the community of Farmington, Utah. While in France, at age three, Jake was enrolled in a French elementary school but he dropped out -- his only academic failure.

Handsome, witty, sardonic and smart, Jake finished at Davis High his junior year and went onto college at Weber State his senior year of high school. He played varsity tennis, was a beautiful skier and a voracious reader. He loved to learn, and to study English literature. He was fashionable and fastidious with his appearance, if not so much with class attendance. Jake’s early years were full of fun adventures with family and close friends. Ski trips, river rafting, beach outings were yearly events. He had a twinkle in his eye, a half smirk on his face and he always had something funny to say.

The Barlow family lived in the same Farmington neighborhood as the Redds. With children close in age the families vacationed together occasionally. While Jake had friendships with many of the Barlows, his friendship with Emily grew into something more. On one of those family trips, sparks flew, and a year later Jake and Emily were married. They settled in North Salt Lake, where they have lived in that wonderful community for the past 20 years.

Jake attended the U of U law school and secured employment with a Salt Lake law firm. He practiced corporate law for twenty years. He was focused on detail, loved to argue a point and he served his clients well. After he left the practice of law, he worked in various executive capacities with different companies. He enjoyed the challenge of private business and was a great mentor to those he worked with.

In 2007, Jake and Emily welcomed their daughter, Sydney Jane, into their family. She was their joy and a precious gift. Jake loved picking out stylish clothes for her and took pride in nurturing her learning and growth. Even when she was a baby, he would say, “Syd and I are going to hit the mall and see if anything jumps out at us.” Sydney was truly a daddy’s girl—he adored her and continually encouraged her in school and activities. In 2009, their son, Dylan Stephen, was born, another treasured gift. As Dylan grew, he shared many of Jake’s passions, especially golf and skiing. The two became golf buddies, and Jake delighted in helping Dylan prepare for tournaments, often studying course layouts together in advance.

Jake’s love language was cooking. He was at his happiest when serving others through food. Known for his signature dishes—and his “no vegetables, please” approach—he loved surprising family and friends with meals. Always experimenting in the kitchen, he became such a skilled cook that even his mother tried to replicate his recipes and techniques.

Jake was bright, loquacious and engaged. He was determined (if not stubborn), but fun and entertaining. Jake was — Logic over Lettuce, Salt and Sarcasm, Gummies and Golf. He was a favorite uncle. He's the one who makes up the funny nicknames, has the most contagious laugh and usually has a pocket full of strawberry gummies. We love you Jake. We will keep doing the fun things that remind us of you.
