Jack LeRoy Bailey Jr., born June 2, 1974, in Nephi, Utah, said “adios” on July 2, 2026 at 5:44 am, in Bountiful, Utah. Jack was a man of kindness, love, and laughter — funny as hell, as anyone who knew him would say. Raised in Moroni and Jerusalem, Utah, he was the beloved son of Jack and Enid (Jackson) Bailey, who taught him the values of hard work, compassion, and family that guided his life.
Jack was a toe‑head blonde, his bright hair and brighter spirit making him unforgettable to all who knew him. He was his mother’s joy and his family’s miracle — a light that will never fade.
His preschool years were as unique as JL. Much to his mom’s chagrin, Jack continually slipped away for his own adventures with wild animals, neighbors, and imaginary friends. Always eager to be part of the fun and learn something new, he occasionally joined the junior high students in the gym, the baseball field, and sometimes even the classroom. His curiosity and fearless spirit were evident from the start, and they shaped the joyful, independent man he became.
Jack served an LDS mission in Morristown, New Jersey, where he learned Spanish and developed a lifelong love for the language and its people.
After graduating from Southern Utah University, Jack created his own “Jack” (not J.L.) life in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived, worked, danced, and loved his people. It was there that he found his calling as an ESL teacher. His students and their families knew him as Mr. Bailey, an extraordinarily kind, loving, generous, and smart teacher who cared deeply and inspired those around him to do their best. He loved being their teacher, and they loved him right back. Beyond academics, he taught them to laugh, think positively, dance, and most of all to accept and believe in themselves. By example, he showed them how to live with kindness, courage, confidence, laughter, honor, unconditional love, acceptance, and joy.
A man of many talents, Jack was a dancer at heart, especially loving Salsa and Swing, and a fabulous clogger whose energy and rhythm could light up any stage. He was also a singer with a rich tenor voice that could lift spirits and fill hearts. Jack played the piano and violin, finding peace and joy in music that reflected his vibrant personality. He loved to play jokes, had a fondness for Atari, and was best friend to everyone — the kind of person who made life better just by being in it. He also had a love for horses, and adored the old ladies in town, always taking time to make them laugh and feel special.
Jack loved, loved his ten nieces and nephews --- Peyton, Preston, Braden, Anna, Josie, Collin, Amanda, Sarah, Chris, and Nick — and, of course, was their favorite uncle, always ready with laughter, music, and a hug. He was the uncle who showed up with a smile, a tease, and a heart full of joy.
While Jack’s heart was his family in Utah and the lessons they had taught him, he found his soul in Vegas surrounded by his second family. Jack had this innate talent for seeing in people what they didn’t even see in themselves. He made people feel valued, loved, and so very important. Jack was the type of person that everyone gravitated toward. Everyone knew that time with Jack would always include laughter, the best hugs, incredible conversations, and, of course, dancing! Jack also made sure that everyone he loved met one another, and thus created a magnificent tapestry of unique souls that had one thing in common…they loved Jack. They loved him for his courageous authenticity, unsuppressed joy, inclusive generosity, and boundless love.
On June 16, 2005, at the age of 31, Jack helped a friend move, visited the gym, and on climbing the stairs to his condo, suffered a traumatic brainstem bleed (AVM) that left his body paralyzed, his voice quieted, and his life totally changed. Instead of letting it defeat him, he spent the remainder of his life teaching others about hope, perseverance, and that happiness can be achieved in any situation. Never offering a complaint, never bitter, Jack spent the last 21 years of his life teaching adults, and kids alike, the same lessons he instilled in his beautiful students.
Jack’s favorites tell the story of his heart: kids, steak and garlic potatoes, midnight dancing, mole, margaritas, his sisters and aunts, his dog Snooks (and other pets), stylish clothes, intelligent conversation, the hot Vegas weather, mountain hiking, Spanish-speaking cultures, surprising people, his nieces and nephews, friends, tapioca pudding, the color red, and snuggling with his mom.
He is survived by his sisters JoAnn (Alan), Cindy (Andy-deceased), Maureen (Bruce), and Jeanene (Bret), and preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Enid (Jackson), and his sister LaFern.
All who knew Jack are invited to join in honoring his memory in Davis County at a date yet to be determined. Once finalized, this tribute will be updated with the date and time of this life celebration of a truly great man, our brother, J.L. aka Jack.
Note to all of Jack’s caregivers, turned friends, through the years. “Thank you.”
