Inez Suzann “Suzy” Thomas Baird passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, grace, and connection that will be felt for generations.
Born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Ogden, Utah, Suzy carried a vibrant spirit from a young age. While her given name was Inez, she preferred—and was known to everyone—as Suzy. It fit her perfectly.
She attended Ogden High School and later Utah State University, where she served as student body Vice President and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority—reflecting her lifelong love of friendship, community, and bringing people together.
She built a beautiful life alongside her husband, Roger R Baird, living most of her married life in Murray, Utah; Millcreek, Washington; Tualatin, Oregon; and Farmington, Utah. Wherever she lived, Suzy created not just a home, but a gathering place.
Suzy was one of a kind. She was classy without trying, kind without exception, and a true social butterfly—the kind of person who could walk into a room and make everyone feel seen, welcomed, and important. She had a gift for bringing out the best in others. She was the life of every party, a gifted storyteller, and someone who never met a stranger.
She had a deep and genuine love for people. She accepted others exactly as they were and had an incredible ability to make them feel comfortable, supported, and included. Whether at a large gathering or during a simple visit, she created connection everywhere she went—with her warm, beautiful smile and the unmistakable twinkle in her eye.
Professionally, Suzy was a physical education teacher, later owning her own drapery and interior decorating business, and also working with Avon. She had an eye for beauty and a gift for making things feel just right—whether in a home or in a moment.
She was active in her faith and served as Relief Society President twice. Her love for Jesus Christ was not just something she spoke about—it was something she lived. She embodied compassion, generosity, and strength, always looking for ways to serve and lift others.
She loved skiing, playing tennis and golf. She was also always up for travel, curious to explore. She enjoyed participating in Relief Society Activities, Ladies Luncheons and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She lived a full and vibrant life, and she lived it well.
At home, she created a sense of consistency and care that her family will never forget. Dinner was on the table at 6:00 p.m., and being together mattered. She took pride in her appearance—always put together, hair done, lipstick on—carrying herself with a quiet elegance that was entirely her own.
More than anything, Suzy will be remembered for the way she touched the lives of those around her—leaving them feeling loved, welcomed, included, and important.
Her presence filled every room, and her absence will be deeply felt.
She made people feel seen—and that is something that will not be forgotten.
Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.
She is survived by her loving husband, Roger; and their children: Mark Baird (Julie), Marci Adams (Eric), Mitch Baird (Emily), and Matt Baird (Mindy). Her posterity was one of her greatest joys. She is also survived by her grandchildren: McKenna Westcott (Cole), Quaid Baird, Graham Baird, Benjamin Adams, Carson Adams, Morgan Keller (Jaxon), Siena Baird, Spencer Baird, Stella Baird, Kayla McNulty, Cameron Baird, and Chloe Baird. And her great-grandchildren: Indiana Keller and Wesley Keller.
