Ida Marie Painter

August 5, 1937 — May 23, 2025

Bountiful, UT

Our beloved wife, mother grandmother sister and friend passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at home in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born in Logan, Utah on August 5, 1937. Her proud parents were Maurice Hall Obray and Ruby Lucille Newbrand Obray of Paradise, Utah.

Marie grew up in Paradise, attending school there until High School where she graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah. In her senior year at South Cache she met her husband of 69 years. Keith Painter. They were married in the Logan LDS temple on November 23, 1955.

Upon graduation from high school she was employed by Cache Knitting Mills as the secretary and model for the custom clothing company. She retained this employment until Keith graduated from college (1958) where he received a commission as a second lieutenant in the field Artillery branch of the U.S. Army. Keith was called immediately upon graduation to the active army, resulting in Marie becoming an Army wife for over 28 years.

As an Army wife, she was called upon to help wives of junior officers and enlisted wives to adjust to and support their husbands in their chosen career. She excelled in this role, helping Keith succeed, especially in stressful positions of command. She was admired for her sense of humor, dedication and respect for all, regardless of the rank of the soldier husband. During their army career she gave birth to two boys, Michael Keith in Germany and David Steven in Logan, UT while Keith was in an army school at Ft Bliss, Texas. She also endured numerous other short separations for Keith's schooling and training operations and one-year tours of duty in Thailand/Laos and Viet Nam. The life of an army wife with two children was challenging to say the least.

Upon retirement from active duty, the Painters were living in Bountiful, Utah where she quickly became involved with the local LDS church and her other neighbors. She helped care for her parents, both of whom passed away during this period. She also worked diligently in her church callings with the same devotion she had followed her entire married life. She was a popular friend to all, especially enjoying lunch out with her many friends, often decorating restaurant tables and providing small gifts to all attendees.

She is survived by her husband, Keith, two sons, Michael Keith (Kimberly) and David Steven, her sister Gay Obray, brother Stephen Obray (Carole) four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
