Henry Lindsay "Lynn" Ashton, Jr.

Dr. Henry Lindsay “Lynn” Ashton Jr.—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, physician, and friend—passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026.

Dad grew up in Utah as part of a close-knit family, as the youngest child born to Henry Lindsay Ashton Sr. and Genevieve Nielson Ashton. Alongside his siblings Arden, Lisle, Calvin, and Enid, he developed a deep appreciation for his Utah roots and pioneer ancestry. That heritage of faith, hard work, and family remained central to who he was throughout his life.

Driven by a desire to serve, dad completed a LDS mission in Paris, France. He went on to study medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1966. His wife, Sharon Baxter Ashton, was by his side through those demanding years, supporting him as he built what would become a long, meaningful career caring for others. Soon after medical school, dad was drafted into the United States military and served two years with the Green Berets—a chapter defined by duty, resilience, and quiet strength.

Upon returning home, he spent decades practicing medicine in Utah. He served patients at Cottonwood Hospital and Alta View Hospital and was an active member of the medical staff at the University of Utah, deeply valuing and loving all the doctors and nurses he had the privilege to work alongside. Colleagues and patients alike knew him for his steady hands, calm judgment, and genuine warmth. Some of his favorite moments in medicine, however, didn't happen in a hospital at all; he loved serving as the team doctor on the sidelines while his sons played football at Murray High School, blending two of his greatest passions: medicine and his boys.

Above all else, Lynn’s family was his world.

He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Sharon Baxter Ashton, on December 23, 2025. They raised four sons: David (Ashley), Michael (Kathryn), Christopher (Laura), and Andrew (Molly). Their family eventually expanded to include 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Those who knew dad will remember much more than his professional titles. They’ll remember a fiercely competitive racquetball player, a man with a quick wit, and a generous friend who was always the first to grab the check at dinner. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved are the traits that will stay with us most.

A celebration of life honoring both Lynn and Sharon will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel at 6410 South 725 East, Murray, Utah 84107.
